Well…I didn’t keep anyone in the loop, but I had my first amatuer Muay Thai fight yesterday in San Antonio. Yep,I finally got my big ass in the ring. I did well…despite trying to fight my body to get out of “autopilot” in the 1st round.
By the time I was “settled” the fight was over…resulting in it being stopped in middle of 3rd round because my nose wouldn’t stop bleeding. They’re were very big on safety and didn’t want people getting hurt. Oh well.
My opponent was a big guy like me…and had good leg kicks, but I ate him up with jabs, straights, and hooks. Frustrated that I couldn’t follow any of those shots with kicks. All my combos were in my head and I saw the opportunities for them, but adrenaline gave me dead legs.
And I failed on a perfect opportunity for a knee to the gut. Despite all of that,I was satisfied with my performance in my first fight…and know what I need to work on to excel in my next fight.
I will have video soon,as Kru Kayan from Muay Thai Institute of Texas and Kru Phet from Vong Phet Muay Thai are reviewing the fights to possibly recruit fighters for future events in TX and possibly Thailand. They are trying diligently to get Muay Thai competition established in TX. About damn time.

Awesome, man. How do your shins feel?
My shins are a little sore…nothing major. My left thigh is tender from a good kick that I didn’t check efficiently. I received a bruised knee from clashing knees(I believe…can’t quite remember). I was hurting later that evening…but I feel fine after ice/ibuprofen last night…and heat/massage today.

congrats. i appreciate that you stepped in the ring.
How long have you trained bevore entering the ring for the first time?
I have trained for almost 2 years now…I’ve had lengthy periods were I did not train due to school…work, etc, and illness due to overtraining.
How often did you train per week?
How was your training constructed( when did you do partner drills, pad work and sparring and so on … )
Well,we did technique/pad work on Mon,Tue,and Thur.
This also included lots of timing drills(highly underrated)and two sparring sessions usually on Wednesday and Friday.
I did conditioning on Monday mornings and after my two sparring sessions on Wednesday/Friday. On Saturday,we did nothing but thai pads.
On Sundays,I rested…doing no more than light cardio/foam roller/stretching.

I will have my own first muay thai fight soon at super heavyweight ( more than 200 lbs) .
Well,I wish you good luck with that. Keep us updated. Oh and I plan on fighting again on March 7th in Austin,TX.
