He is completely wrong on wide stance squatting, but what do you expect? Obviously he is going to promote what he does. He isnt gonna say “yeah my form is some bullshit used to reduce the ROM while taking advantage of the equipment at the bottom position”
He needs to sell.
Ever notice how countless raw lifters dont box squat, dont use a super side stance, and many dont use bands/chains? That is because all that bullshit is made for equipped lifters to emulate using their suits.
Simmons is a smart man, and a terrific salesman. But here is a simple way to know he is wrong. He says a narrow stance cant go wide, but a wide can always go narrow. Show me one clip of any westside lifter going ATG with a weight close to what oly lifters do. I bet Simmons could barely do 405 like that. Mark Bell admitted himself that his oly squat is total dick.
I have no problem with equipped lifters, but I do have problems with the misinformation and over-selling associated with it.[/quote]
ok so one could conclude that for most(!) raw lifters it is much much better to squat with a normal stance, as opposed to wide? it seems very unconsiderate that he does not once mention that his advice applies only to multi ply lifters, maybe even reckless?
Louie has one goal, and that’s to lift the most weight possible.
He’s been known to go to meets where they call a bit higher so his guys get squats passed.
I don’t really like his squat, but if he competed raw, I guarantee his whole methodology would be quite a bit different.
The thing I take away, is their deadlifts, 18 guys over 800 is mind blowing, so there’s something great going on over there.
But, about your comment, yes, for a raw lifter, shoulder width stance is ideal.
larry- im sure youve mentioned it before but whats your age, weight, and what fed do you compete for?
just curious thnks.
Hey man, I’m 28, weigh 233, but 240 soon, and I compete in the WPC.
