Louie Simmons is an equipped powerlifter that trains with other equipped powerlifters
He is completely wrong on wide stance squatting, but what do you expect? Obviously he is going to promote what he does. He isnt gonna say “yeah my form is some bullshit used to reduce the ROM while taking advantage of the equipment at the bottom position”
He needs to sell.
Ever notice how countless raw lifters dont box squat, dont use a super side stance, and many dont use bands/chains? That is because all that bullshit is made for equipped lifters to emulate using their suits.
Simmons is a smart man, and a terrific salesman. But here is a simple way to know he is wrong. He says a narrow stance cant go wide, but a wide can always go narrow. Show me one clip of any westside lifter going ATG with a weight close to what oly lifters do. I bet Simmons could barely do 405 like that. Mark Bell admitted himself that his oly squat is total dick.
I have no problem with equipped lifters, but I do have problems with the misinformation and over-selling associated with it.[/quote]
I’ve also done multi ply lifting and it was awesome, but I was high.
Louie is a genius, and his goal is to lift the most weight possible within the rules, he simply doens’t care where he does it, and has been known to cherry pick his meets and if they’re calling high at a meet, he calls his lifters up early.
Good on him, he’s a winner, IMO.
They squat high, but there’s still great advice to be had. When I think of westside, I think of their 18+ 800+ deadlifters… that’s total insanity. So I pay attention to all his writings, I just take them with a grain of salt.
I could go on and on, but I just take what’s useful, and always remember, they train in gear, or in ways to get them used to gear without taxing the CNS or getting hurt.
I really like your reply, thanks for sharing
