Haha bro, wasn’t feeling my strongest today, maybe it was the music, but I’ll get 600+ on vid in a few weeks.

How’ve you been?

Watched the last bench vid in your youtube channel as well.

FWIW while you’re using an arch, your elbows are too flared at the bottom there to make any use of it really.

Are you doing this as a chest exercise, or for the numbers? If it’s the latter, I’d tuck elbows in hard at the bottom, touch somewhat lower maybe, then flare out on the way up (not too early).

Gotta say though, you are making nice and steady progress buddy.

For the numbers man, looking to do a meet in March…I know what you are saying. I am working on it, my form is different now than in those vids as well and I have been pausing all my reps…

Now that my deadlifing is done, I have some squats to do and some speed benching so when I hit that up I’ll try a bit of a closer grip. Thanks man.

And I just watched that 365 vid, maybe bring each hand in another 2 inches, definitely too much flare.

Try shooting the next vid from a side view, it’s hard to tell what your lower back is doing there. That’s why I pull semi-sumo man, so much easier to stay tight there at the bottom of the lift especially.

Life (the good bits) has kept me away from the net for a while… My training approach has been getting a bit of an overhaul too.

Music… Something that gets you amped man… Whatever that is in your case, just make sure it’s got the right atmosphere… Chilling or clubbing etc isn’t what you want to do in the weight-room, no?

How are your other lifts coming along?

It’s not even just the grip, you can actually tuck on the way down (i.e. you start flared, then when lowering the weight/rowing it down you tuck all the way you can until you hit max tuck (as much as feels good, that is) at the bottom, then reverse that… Grip width is of course something to consider still, but the closer you go the stronger your arms, biceps too, need to be imo…) even with a wider grip, well, as wide as your wrists will tolerate when tucking.

Yeah I will get the next vid from the side, my lower back is tight, but being tall I have a pretty rounded upper back which is fine. Kind of how KK lifts.

Yeah I actually cut down on the amount of days I train and have a different apporach but my sessions are longer. Nice having a few more off days to recover though. Glad you are doing well.

Thus is true, but music does nothing for me, can’t hear anything when lifting except my inner thought of pull or push.

Other lifts, I am sitting around a 390 paused bench, deadlift as seen in the vid but I should be good for 6+ now or very soon, squat kinda sucks, a deep 425 is my best…long legs and neglect for the loss, but it’s my primary focus, brought it up a lot over the past 6 months.

If you don’t mind I will email you a vid next ME bench session. I am going to focus on the tuck more.

Ok.

Nice job man. I am sitting at around 17.2" at 202 lb’s. Getting there.

I know this thread has turned into Austin’s Workout log (keep up the great work by the way), but back in the day anyone over 18 got to post. So here is my contribution. It took me long enough, but I finally got over the 18 inch mark this year. The pic was taken cold; I never get a chance to measure right after lifting. I’m 6’8’’ and just over 300 lbs. 19 inches is the next goal.

Fishdog

Good stuff fellas, idk if my arms are even 18 inches anymore, refusing to measure them.

Shyt! That is strong Austin!

If you’re doing a meet, watch your hitching on your pulls. That 586 would have slid right up your legs I think with bare legs plus baby powder, but you can see where it starts to stick a bit you get the urge to hitch it. On the triple video you posted, you really hitched the last rep. Nip that in the bud now and learn to fight the weight to lockout without hitching. It looks like you are built well to pull, no reason to get any bad habits now.

Thanks Mytch…

And Burt, yeah I even stated in the description on that vid that I hitched it…Began deadlifting last summer, pretty pleased with the progress. I will get a vid up of 600+ very soon, hopefully no hitching, I think it’s been sitting around with slouched/bad posture that was causing my some lower back discomfort so I need to correct that too…

Will keep everyone updated with meet results granted all goes well.

Tremendous work Austin.

Keep going.

I’m jealous of your progress, which is insane for a little over a year. One other thing that I think will help you hit 600 and beyond: get your quads stronger so you can get your hips a little lower and still break the floor. It looks like your back is really strong and how high you start with your hips is definitely a personal preference, but yours are higher than most folks I’ve seen that pull conventional. Were I you, I’d focus on quad strength and keeping my head and chest up, which should lead to your hips being a little lower and being able to use your legs, and not your back, to break the floor. If you’re nearing 600 after only a year of pulling, I’d guess you’ve got a good shot at being one of those rare people that can pull 700+.

Good luck at your meet!

“good shot” of pulling 700? Fuck me… why doesn’t he have a good shot of pulling 1004 and breaking the record if he wants to?

I mean, I dk how old he is, guess he’s the same age as me… so if he is 20ish and pulling 600 he’s
got up to 20 years to increase by 405pounds… very doable. IMHO.

Strength gains aren’t linear or consistent and they slow as you train (you’ll learn this when you have more than a couple of months under your belt). Bolton pulled 600 the first time he ever deadlifted. Austin’s going to pull a lot of weight, but suggesting he has a good shot at pulling 1004 before he’s done is a little silly. There’s a difference between putting limits on yourself and being realistic.
