Judging your avi they don’t seem a trouble area anymore. Mind sharing what worked to bring them up?[/quote]
Oh no, they definitely still are, unfortunately. Biceps and tris both have zero roundness… just like, flat, when they’re relaxed. Really sucks. So yeah, gonna have to get them way more ginormous before they look even halfway decent. Although I’m sure they will look better at 8-10% bodyfat.
As for what I’ve done… I followed morepain’s advice and start doing 2 sessions a week, one heavy, in the 2-5 rep range for the heavy sets mostly, and the other not being concerned about weight, and just pumping the shit out of the muscle, 15-30 rep sets.
Doing this I think brought my arms from 16.5 to 17 within 6 weeks or so.
Then, after progress slowed down, I took the principles laid out in John Roman’s specialization article, and in 5 weeks, went from about 17 to almost 17.5. Now I’m doing a routine (I wrote it out in the T-Cell Guns thread) where Im still hitting arms 3x a week to give them the attention they need. Also, improving the mind-muscle connection, esp. for triceps, has helped a TON.
20 inches pls!

Damn man you put an inch on your arms in 11 weeks? Thats solid. I’m interested in Roman’s specialization routine(s) as well but it’ll probably be awhile before I try them since I’ll finish gaining, then cut, then maybe try it. I might do arm specialization but honestly my chest needs it more. Maybe forearms + chest
Did you do his suggested routine of biceps + triceps or just one?

x2 man that’s some nice fast gains. Right now I’m concerned more about legs and shoulders, but this year I wanna get over that 17" mark, 220 or more would be a nice plus. Thanks for sharing, I’m definitely giving this a shot if my bodyweight and arm measurements start to look weird.

Nice!
Love the name, too (and Twisted Sister). I used to use that name playing online Delta Force 2 back in the day.
Thanks Counting Beans and SteelyD. I thought I accidently killed this thread with my first ever T-Nation pic. And SteelyD, I really didn’t think anyone would get that Twisted Sister reference. They might be a little cheesy but that song still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Didn’t even realize you posted a pic lol. Nice arm bro.

Here’s the deal, many of these guys will HAVE to look softer for a while to make progress like that. There is a reason so few of these guys who are more focused on how lean they are happen to be reaching this level of size in this amount of time.
had I posted a pic of the very first day I hit 18" arms, you would probably say the same shit about me. Hitting that size while being a little soft first and then growing into it basically has been my strategy from day one (I started at about 150lbs and yes, I fucked up quite a bit before I learned my own body’s limits).
It’s working for AustinB and it worked for me…even though it should be clear as day that he isn’t half assing it in the gym and neither did I.
This is not for people who just eat more and then go through the motions in the gym.
My arms are a hell of a lot bigger than 18" now and all of those people who told me I was carrying too much fat at times are WAY smaller.
Obviously there are limits and I don’t think AB let it get out of hand at all.
no i agree most of his softness is just primarily age at this point and its nice to see him developing some quality muscle tissue. Like you i graduated high school at about 150lbs at 6’0" YIKES! but i was always crazy lean, my way to 225 was 4 quarts of whole chocalate milk per day plus meals…then to 250 it was 2 pounds of red meat daily plus god knows what…pretty much every damn thing i could eat…
i shopped based on caloric density nothing else mattered. From 250-300lbs…well that required “alternate measures”. i think i jsut naturally come across as cynical sometimes…thats what happens when you run a manufacturing company and half your people are high school drop out red necks.
Austin, that’s a pretty arm right there.
Hell yeah Austin! Much improved over last time you posted a pic in hurrr.
Well thanks friends.
To start, MorePain, I agree with you in a sense, but as lame as it sounds the quality of the photographs I took prior was just pure shit. I always hate posting pics that don’t look like what I see everyday in the mirror, but I did anyways.
Needless to say, my arms have definitely improved. I weigh probably 15-20 pounds less than in the pictures at the beginning of the thread and my arms are the same size, if not bigger which I guess means I added muscle while losing fat. My arms ares also as strong as they’ve ever been, doing some semi-cheat curls with 185 for reps has really helped make my muscles look harder.
I agree with X, I need to get a little uncomfortable if I want to gain as quickly as possible, after a diet, I will be bulking again. I will do things slightly differently, maybe eat a little cleaner and try to remain leaner while gaining, we will see how it goes. I never half ass workouts. I also this week started to buy and prepare my own food which is the first time ever doing so in my life. I still live at home so I’ve always relied on my parents but I can not grow as I would like to by eating like a normal person and throwing in fucking junk food.
It shall be a good journey, hopefully I can get a video of a 405 bench coming up to throw into that other thread, definitely before I am 20 in July, or at least that is the goal. Again, thanks for the support.
