I just started lifting and altering my diet about four months ago to this day. I’ve learned alot so far and am enjoying the workouts and the healthy living diets. I used to be 70 lbs overweight. I am currently 5’8, my lifts are nothing to show off. I’m about 130 lbs and am wondering where to go from here. I don’t want to get into bodybuilding or powerlifting as a sport but instead better myself, my strength, and my physical abilities. and of course my looks. I like to box and practice martial arts such as Goju-te Karate and Capoeira.
I was thinking of bulking to gain around 20 lbs of muscle but I’m too much of a pussy because I don’t want to get fat again, I consider my metabolism as a slow one. I am currently in the first 12 day introductory phase of the Anabolic diet by Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale. If anyone’s currently using the Anabolic diet or its many variations or has in the past I would love to hear about how it works/worked for you. Any suggestions, critisicm, or comments are more than welcome, also again just to keep in mind I’m not going for competition but instead just to see be the best and physically balanced person I can achieve. Thanks for your time.
Ps, yes I always have a constipated mean look in pictures, my bad =P
Don’t be afraid of bulking up, if you eat cleanely and lift heavy, you’re not gonna be fat. There’s no way to build 20 pounds of muscle without picking up some fat, by the way, so don’t even try you’re gonna be disappointed.
One thing though - are you saying you lost 70 pounds in 4 months of training and dieting? I doubt that, but if it’s the case, your metabolism is anything but slow
oh no, Originally I was 70lbs overweight. I lost 70 lbs over about a year and a half by schlepping around and fixing my diet. then i kind of didnt care for a year and since late jan I’ve been lifting. around there. and really started to care. Yeah I enjoy healthy foods, don’t even touch cake, icecream, soda, etc etc. So I should just stfu and bulk?
Exactly. Bulk =! Wendy’s 3 times a day though… I assume you know what you’re doing if you managed to lose that much weight, but take time to check out some bulking diets and programs.
Honestly, this is the best time of your life to bulk. Your test levels are naturally high, your body is growing anyways, and it will be much easier for you to add quality muscle then it will be later in life. Plan on gaining about 35-40 lbs, then slim down, and you should be right on track.
When you bulk, I feel, that I must make sure that all of my calories are clean. As you go, you will figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. I’ve seen some guys eat half a pizza while saying, “Shut up, im bulking.” lol Anywho, you’re doing fine. You have a clean slate to start from.
Thanks guys. I’ve decided I will start bulking with clean calories (Hleathly shit tastes better to me anyways) and I’m geting that starting today slowly raising my caloric intake to 2400 to begin with. I have been at a measely 900 a day :o

900 calories a day??
That’s starvation rations, my friend! Yeah…eat!
may aswell be haha, I was feeling full on that but most of my intake was carbohydrates in the form of oatmeal and lean chicken. Although I’m trying the Anabolic diet for now this is my second day on it and I just sat down and ate Bacon and Eggs =) and lots of them too, I believe it was 400-500 cals worth.
just an update, I’ve been consuming around 2.5k-3k calories a day and man, I feel awsome. my workout was epic yesterday and I’m deffinetly bulking for awhile. I figure if I keep my bulking clean I shouldn’t be too bad off, don’t wanna go above 15% bf thats about the point ill drop for a little so i can stay regulated.
your metabolism will skyrocket if you do calorie/carb cycling. but thats only necessary cause you care about fat.
for a start eat clean, 1.5-2 grams of protein per bodyweight IMO(others may say less or more… if you can afford more then do so i agree… 260 grams doesnt cost that much), eat everything clean. if it works for you, keep at it. if it doesnt, increase the amounts. gaining 1 lb per week is fine for not gaining too much fat. i personally went for 2 lbs and gained quite a bit of fat.
with carb/calorie cycling basically you eat a lot on some days, preferably gym days, eating say 1000 cals above maintenance and on off days you eat at maintenance for an average of 3500 cals per week surplus. this way your metabolism will be higher, and you’ll feel better during gym days.

I figured I’d give you guys an update with picts, I’ve been doing EDT with a full body every other day with a two day break smack in the middle of the week (usually when im burnt out) I’ve upped my calories and noticed fat gain, yet the scale says nothing. Although I do notice definite muscle size gains! without further adieu.

the back…kind of blurry and not the best flex. sorry =P
after a month I’m quite happy with the improvements made and will hope to make many many more =)
You are too young dont overreact.
99% of the guys here including myself dont know shit about underage weight training to give you any tips.
Try build you future foundations here , dont overdo it. Overdo it now and you gonna have problems later.
Remeber you just need to stimulate your muscles not annihilate them.
Since you are so young your muscles will geting longer and longer so dont expect to bulk , your goals shouldnt be that at 15.
dude , i cannot stress enough how fragile your age is , take it simple relax and enjoy the ride
You have to make sure you’re eating enough, which you seem to be just fine now. Don’t be quite so strict with your bf% right now. Your body is trying to do two things at one time (grow because of puberty and grow because of training).
I was too strict with myself at your age and as a result, I couldn’t gain any mass. I was overtraining and not eating enough. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a place like T-Nation to help me out, so I eventually gave up.
Congratulations on your progress so far, your doing great.
Thanks Jay and topoulo. I’ll heed both of your advice =)
