15 Year Old + Heavy Lifts?

Im 15 and had a quick question. I been reading articles and a couple of articles caught my eye about 4 to 6 reps to get stronger but dat means up the weight. You think me upping the weight so i can get a workout out of 4 to 6 reps will mess me up in same way, like growth or some type of injury? Im mostly looking at doing this for bench squat and deadlifts.

Im 17 and have been in the lower reps sinse about 15 1/2 and im 6’2. if anything heavy lifting promotes growing.

The above is correct It promotes calcium storage in bones etc.

Just think there are High school Powerlifting and Oly lifting teams etc. Football wrestling they lift.

It does however depend on your training age as well. youcould be 50 and very young training wise and then it is NOT smart to go right to heavy loads. The body joints tendons etc just are NOT ready for it. You need time under the bar not just weeks or days but time months, years.

How long have you been lifting??

about a year

Well for sure still a pup training age wise and it depends on what that training was. but by all means go for it just take it slow be smart maybe do a few months working to 3 reps max’s like WS4SB and progress from there.

FORM FIRST. FORM FIRST. FORM FIRST.

Lifting heavy will hurt you if you do it with bad form. Get your form right first - then go heavy.

Bro 320 means nothing. Thats just a number and they are relative. As in 320 may be over some peoples maxes or a new PR, MANY others see that as noyhing but a warm up load.

Is that heavy to you??
Thats what matters. Consistantly beuing better than you.

Rainjack is right form is a must.

I agree with Phil. Putting a number on “going heavy” is playing the macho game.

The best you can do is the best you can do. That’s what you focus on. If you have never gotten underneath 320 before - don’t let the first time be when you are trying to squat it.

I don’t know what your numbers are like right now - but take it from an old man: leave the macho stuff at home. If you are wanting to make progress, there is no room for macho.

I am not accusing you - let’s clear that up right now. You are of the age where macho is like a disease. Forget about how much is on the bar. I have set a PR in everything this summer 5 or 6 times by not looking at the weight, but going balls out. I only realized my progress when looking back at my training journal.

im thinking 320 would be a good weight to be geting a good workout with 3 to 6 reps. I havent been lifting lately because of football but now its over this monday im starting to lift. last off season i put up 380 max. So im guessing this a good weight right???

How deep are you going? 380 “last off-season” seems like a lot considering you’re only 15 now.

Very good question??

whoa whoa whoa i aint trying to sound big or “macho” i was just saying the weight cause i thought it might effect me cause i thought maybe even if i can get dat its alittle to much.

Dont get me wrong i have nothing to brag about ,dont think of this thread like that. Im just not trying to fuck up my body so that i wont hurt my self dthat i wont be able to play next year. Thats what happen to one kid on the team.

on our power rack at school there is a cable wire that has to bend a good amount to be counted as a good squat. I assure you im going all the way im not doing non of the half squats, im going all the way done till legs line up wit the floor.

umm if your legs go parallel(like they should) its a half squat.

john S isnt it a bit early to be drinking?

oh great a hilarious joke. I was asking a serious question forget about my max and answer the main question.

my bad i missread what he said. Im sorry. But I need to ask if you squat 320 for 4-6 reps(wich is great) shouldnt you have already seent he benifets of heavy lifting?

no i havent done it yet. I said 320 for 4 to 6 reps because i thought that would be a right weight for someone to be doing, that maxes 380.

Still your maxing 380 at 15. your doing 35lbs more then i am and 2 years younger. Obviously this heavy lifting is working for you. now unless your feeling pains i think you shoudl be able to figure out if its working.
