Hi, im new and looking for some sound advice, recntly i came into possession of a 100kg olympic weights set and a bench and a squat rack.
The problem is there seems to be so many different routines out there that as a beginner i really am not sure which one is right for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Currently mass is more important for me but i do want to get stronger aswell, being 5’9 and 135lbs i pretty much look like a skeleton
5x5…10x3…full body…body part--------it does not matter ONE BIT. Do something. Do it consistently. The best advice I can give is to keep a workout journal. It allows you to see your progress which keeps you motivated as well as formulating future workouts by keeping you moving forward. Just do it
StrongLIFTS is a great beginner’s website with a lot of the basics (movements, diet, etc.) along with the two most popular 5x5 programs.
Most of the articles here on T-Nation are great to read at any level, but are mostly too specialized to consider or implement entirely when first starting out. Don’t stress about the amount of information out there, but do practice good form, good gym etiquette, and eat a mostly clean diet.
Agree on 5x5. Perfect program that will get you all around stronger and more athletic.
Mass will come easier the more you eat. As a beginner don’t worry about getting your diet perfect or eating ultra clean, just make sure you’re getting in the correct amount of calories every day.
I would suggest using a calorie tracking app for a few days just to get a feel of what eating enough means. I’d shoot for 3000-3500 cals every day.
How about 135 and Getting Stronger. I know it doesn’t answer your question directly but, this journey begins with wanting to better yourself nd be the best you can be for what ever goal you have. If in your head your 135 and weak you will stay 135 and weak. So you from now on grow some spine and think positively 135 and a Freak in Training… See what I mean makes you much more likely to succeed.
