11 Lbs in 2 Months?

As dumb as this sounds, how is it possible to gain 11 lbs in 2 months? I weighted 230 at the beginning of June, yet now I’m up to 241. I am eating ON AVERAGE 3000 Kcal per day, macro breakdown is 40/20/40 usually (fat/carb/protein).

Some days I will have up to 4500 kcal, but it’s rare that I go that high. Maybe 2-3 days per month. I’m trying to cut down. I’m 6’5, roughly 14% bf. I’m FFB, and have been “cutting” for a LONG time. Did I f up my metabolism by cutting so long?

Thanks,

Ben

How did you cut? If you have low carbed your way down, the extra weight can easily be from glycogen replenishment and water retention. 11 lbs in a month is no big deal, I’ve gained 20 lbs in a day before.

Yes, you can easily put on 11 lbs in a month. I have seen several of my friends do this when they become unemployed.

Definitely. I almost always eat very low carb, and one weekend I went to New Orleans and ate whatever I wanted. Bingo, up 18 lbs. in 2 days. All gone one week later.

yah and he said 11 pounds in 2 months! Theres a good chance some new muscle tisue may have been gained! Lets not rule that out yet. OP do you look leaner, softer or whould you say you look about the same?

If you gained 11 lbs in two months while trying to lose fat I think you probably did something wrong. Just a hunch…

I highly doubt you put on 11 lbs of muscle on 3000 calories/day. Even with newbie gains if that applies to you.

Agreed but he said he went as high as 4500? I mean Im not saying he gained 11lb’s of muscle but maby 2-4 pounds and some water retention??? just a thought

To answer lots of questions, yes it was low carb dieting, and yes I’m still on a low carb eating plan (just 800-1000 kcal a day higher). I don’t eat processed foods (other than beef jerky), and I use Fitday.com every day to track exactly how I’m doing. I have gotten significantly stronger, my squats have gone up by 80 lbs for 6rm, RDLs up 60 lbs for 6rm, bench and shoulder presses are up, etc.

I just feel bloated like hell. I don’t look like i’ve gained any fat, but I just don’t see how my body can gain 11 lbs in 2 months. Also, in this time period I transitioned from HRX to Alpha Male, so I’m not sure if that has an effect.

Thanks,

Ben

You feel bloated, my guess is water retention. Like Dave said, some weight could DEFINITLY be muscle. Add that all up and you might have gained very minimal fat.

Interesting I’m gona go ahead and say its water weight because you said you feeling bloated! Just try to up your water intake, Evaluate your soduim intake and keep carbs low it should go down within the week!

Elusive whats up man where are you at with your training still making headway?

Well, I’m not dieting. lol. Im still eating w.e, but I have been making nice strength gains.
srry for the hijack.

If it is, in fact water retention, what do you guys recommend to get rid of the bloating feel? Just run and sweat a shitload, introduce something into my diet, a supplement, or just be patient?

Ben

drink more water, maybe stop salting your foods (if you are) or just remove the higher sodium foods.

Up your water intake the more water you body has the less reason it has to hold water! Aim for 1.5 - 2 galons a day! Watch that you dont eat to many processed foods that are packed with salt as well as salty condiments then keep your carbs low…youl be dry in no time (Meaning of course no more bloat or water retention)

I dont think your body will dump water just because you’re drinking gallons. That makes no sense. You body has a reason for storing water and one component of that is electrolyte balance.

Dont fall for the 8 glass of water (or any other water myth). Drink when you’re thirsty and obviously keep hydrated when you’re training.

If you’re low carbing your body will retain less water. Maybe the bloating is from eating certain foods? I know that when I carb binge I end up looking pregnant.

11lbs of weight in 2 months? Just over a 1lb a week? Sounds pretty good to me. Looks like you might have made some decent gains. Enjoy them.

I agree with Dave, prob a mixture of muscle, water, and fat.

Average bulking gains. The mirror and lift numbers should tell you all you need to know.

I guess as a FFB, i’m just always scared of seeing the scale numbers go UP not down. I used to be 350+, so seeing 241 scares the crap out of me after having been 230.

Are you serious? I’m not flaming you, but this is a very common tactic used for contests. Drinkning more water is a great way to “dump it”. Don’t just drink when thirsty. It’s like eating for bulk…force it down.
