so…
consensus seems to be that theoretically one should be able to lift more with a squat jerk.
it is because technique breaks down (due to fatigue) that one can’t.
yeah?

I’m probably not going to get this right because I don’t really understand but two coaches I know are in disagreement about power vs split.
One said split because it has more room for error which is required for 95% of lifters but the other says that the power jerk is more perfect a lift, it’s balanced and when executed correctly it is so much more efficient and therefore a good power jerker is going to jerk more weight than with a split jerk that every lifter should be training to be proficient at it.

It’s possible (to your second point). I mean, look at this Chinese fella. That’s a beauty of a power jerk and no one can argue against that ![]()
nice find! I have said this before, and i will say it again. many people on this website want to be lean, and muscular, but not look so big and bulky as powerlifters and bbers, OL is the answer
fuck all the latest gined up routines of the guru of the month, just train like competitive OLers. lean , strong, flexible, and explosive.
win, and win.

that’s what I say man. if you train like an O-lifter, properly, for a decent amount of years, you’ll have a pretty amazing looking body that will be capable of crazy amounts of strength/power/mobility/body awareness/coordination the list goes on.

I just love this one of Klokov, I looks like he’s swinging an empty car around!
Can’t embed things to save my life! sheesh!
Oh, I have!
Alexus my take on it
Squat Jerk : most technically efficient to do I don’t think just because something is the most efficient makes it the easiest for everyone to do
A few big issues
- no one is taught to squat jerk first, they are usually taught to split Jerk. I’m willing to bet that if loads of people were taught to squat jerk from the start they would be much better at it and more people doing it. Figure the a mount of time you have spent split jerking? You have to at least spend that amount of time squat jerking! You wont’ magically become efficient after a month or even a year if you have een train g
- crazy mobility to do it and the slim margin of error
- the crazy demands of squatting up again, you need a crazy big squat to make it work
Don’t over analyse it. Just Power Jerk/ Squat jerk, and stick with it. Your foot is busted so you can’t split, so don’t do it. Just keep training, hammer your squat up and listen to your coaches.
A very select few can make the power jerk/ squat jerk work at the Elite level. This should tell you that for most people they can’t do it. But I think more would be able to make it work if they had started out squat jerking/ power jerking right from the get go.
It looks soooooo cool though ![]()

I don’t squat jerk. The most I did was about 5yrs ago? I did about 95kg at the time. The balance needed at limit weight is crazy…easier to power jerk. You can’t ride a power Jerk down as you lose it when it’s heavy.

thanks. i think i will work on the squat jerk. because i’m never going to be amazing really so doing it for the technical mastery is what i’m about, really.
glad you think it looks cool ![]()
Whats the point in power jerking vs. squat jerking/split jerking…? Why would he make the lift harder ?
