Front Squats?

Why are front squats used by Oly lifters so often, when front squats emphasize anterior chain, whereas the Oly lifts are mainly post. chain exercises? I would think box squats and regular back squats would be better for that.

have you noticed that you have to, at one point front squat during the clean and jerk?

ehehe

Why did you just make such an idiot of yourself?

Let’s play spot the front squat

Someone once said that there is no such thing as a stupid question. That someone was a fucking retard.

LOL!!!

I agree the front squat is an absolute waste of time for olympic weightlifting. Time would be better spent doing calve raises, hamstring curls, and leg extensions.

And then I ate a gun.

No stupid questions, only stupid people.

Great post.

This has to be a troll job. Right??

front squats are useless for Olympic lifting. Remember, world class Olympic Lifters are built on a tight regiment of bicep curls and bench press. Followed by a steady diet of corn chips and soda.

I like soda can I be a olympic lifter not in love with corn chips though hope that dosnt keep me out

Pretty obviously a troll job, because I simply asked a question about something I knew little about. It would only make sense then, to make fun of me because I was trying to learn something new.

let me defend lol. It was an ignorant question, but ignorant does mean “not knowing” He prob does the HighSchool football squat where his arms cross the bar, as oppose to a Oly grip so he would “not know” of the clean grip.

Also im sure many of you seen a highschool football player clean. the knee doesnt even break lockout its terrible. There he over thought, asked the smartest most tech Q to get some respect of knowing kinestology(sp) and just had a goomba of an answer.

*Note-i gotta stop writing books for posts

it does. I`m sorry. Naim and Pyrros and Reza are all advocates of the soda and corn chips diet. Its been proven to be true by scientitions that the affects of corn chips and soda are synergistic in developing the muscles in your Olympic lifting muscles. Serious.

To the OP:

O lifters do front squat to build strength in the portion of the lift after the clean and before the jerk.

I officially have a new hero.

The problem is you didn’t really phrase it like a question, more of a statement. Basically “why do weightlifters front squat when they should be back squatting and box squatting?”. If you had of said why do they front squat instead of box squatting you’d have got more positive repsonses.

But fair play, you took the replies on the chin like a man!!

To be fair, there is some point to the OP’s question. You never get a chance to front squat a clean unless you can, you know, clean it. The clean itself takes a lot of posterior chain strength for which the front squat is not the ideal exercise.

Nor, it seems, are a lot of front squats needed to develop the strength to get out of the hole on a clean. From my brief time training as an oly lifter, I never saw a person clean a weight that they couldn’t stand up with.

Indeed, this article seems to share the OP’s concerns, but with the BACK squat, which is even more PC dominant than the front squat:

It is for this very reason that Coach Rippetoe has his oly lifters focus on the low-bar back squat as opposed to the high-bar back squat or front squat.

This answers my question. Thank you.
