100% Raw - Overall Female Winner

But Performed My Personal WORST!

Not the day I expected sigh a learning experience. I dropped 14 lbs in 12 days to make the weight class, and to add insult to injury, my coach/friend of two years and I became aware of some serious personal differences before and during this meet. I lost a friend and coach. My head was not there and I wasn’t focused.

For videos, see link: http://gingervieira.blogspot.com

Apparently, I set some records in the 100% Raw Federation but I’m not really sure at the moment.

In the end, my personal worst was enough to win.

I’ll refrain, thank you. This is a website about powerlifting, not personal relationships, and I included enough to cover the point that I was really not focused and I allowed this to affect my athletic performance. I put as much information about that as I did because it’s personal and hardly worth trying to sum up details about a friendship/training relationship of two years in a few sentences to a stranger.

Why was the 181 bench disqualified?

Ginger … i’ve read three of your posts … aaaaaand enjoyed em all

Couldn’t really see too well on your squat videos … some bald guy was in the way … inconsiderate bastard

However…

Keep up the good work and keep breaking those records

Sorry to hear about losing a friend, always a crappy experience … i’m sure it’ll work out later

But i’ll end this on a positive note:

New England fo’ life!!!

Sorry to hear about the friend …but congrats on setting a raw record, keep focused, every thing will pass

I still have to say congrats. Use this and come back better and stronger.

nice deadlift BTW

figured you wanted to spill the beans after bringing it up

Ginger watched the vids on your site. The bench was DQ’d because the bar went down after you got the press command. Looked like you got the press command then dropped it to bounce it off your chest, (heaving).

The DL was DQ’d because of hitching. I think I heard a few people mention that too you at the end of the video.

You looked very strong though, keep up the good work.

Thanks. Yeah, they did explain it well to me while I was there. I didn’t feel like I was hitching during, but when I saw the video, it definitely wasn’t smoooooth!

I’m gonna have work on that bench press heaving issue…I have boobs! How can it not sink a little deeper? I’ll work on it…

Thank you for your feedback!

Ah, fair enough. But nope, I don’t!

What sugar level do you try and lift at? Just curious that’s all. I have 2 friends that are diabetic that play volleyball so I ask a lot of questions to them about it.

But your lifts look impressive from visiting your website. Congrats.

Edit: Noob question. Since you powerlift what does “Raw” mean? To me it means lifts without suits, belts, and straps and maybe wraps. But noticed you were wearing a belt and a suit(?). Thanks.

That’s blood sugar questions is a great one. During gym training, i keep my blood sugar around 120 to 180. Don’t let it drop low or the day is done.

During my competition, I couldn’t get it less than 250. It’s the adrenaline, the stress, everything. I checked it often throughout the day and at times it was 365, and it would NOT go down below 250 with boluses of extra insulin. As soon as I was done, and checked before dinner that night, it was back down to 145.

In the end, it is better that I’m high during the day than low, because I didn’t “feel” high (nauseus or sluggish), and I dfeinitely can’t do anything if I’m low or recovering from a low (it knocks you out well).

RAW in 100% Raw means BELTS ONLY! Some Raw federations allow wrist wraps and knees wraps. And boy, I could’ve used 'em on Sunday!

Thanks for all the information! What measurement does you meter read at? I believe my friends read at mmol/L. So when I read 120-180 I was like “holy shit”. But different measurement obviously.

Sorry to stray away from you powerlifting just curious about diabetes with weight training. I’ll pm you with more questions that arise  (if you don’t mind).

So I’m understanding correctly that you had hit 261 on Squat before just missed it that time?..I was just thinking that’s a really big gap bewteen weights is all.

Yeah, you saw it correctly. In may and in the gym, I’ve hit way more than 230. I did 265 last may. The only squat that counted was 231 last Sunday.

My bodyweight drop, and basically my complete lack of focus and confidence really threw me off. A learning experience :stuck_out_tongue:

Yea I was thinking if she can pull 303 then she can squat 261 sorry to hear that…nice lifts though.

Hey! I am brand new to the sport of powerlifting and I am so excited to see another 132 female on this website! You did awesome at your meet and I can only imagine how the personal distraction could have thrown you off. I hope all goes well through that situation for you and for your friend.

Type One Diabetic here too and i can relate on the adrenalin, during rugby games im usually sky high. Then after the game i usually crash not long after leaving the field
