Janie's Journal

Hi my name is Janie. I decided to keep a journal to track meals, progress, thoughts, and new adventures! I started to powerlift May of this year. I have competed in two meets with two feds-AAU and USPF. I have a meet coming up in December 2009.

My current lifts are:
132 bench
289 deadlift
209 squat

I lift RAW!!! Belt and wraps(but not all the time) only. I am in the 148 lb class and currently cutting to get to the 132 class.
My goals for the Dec meet:

  1. 132 class
  2. 230 squat
  3. 300 deadlift
  4. 135-140 bench

After my meet I will be taking a break from PL and work more on volume VS. max effort with all lifts. More band/chain work + accessories.
This is what I do now and I love it!! I having been dancing with the idea of bodybuilding. We shall see!!

hi bobbi

haha
I train 3x/week. I have added cardio 2x/week plus after a day of lifting so three total days of cardio a week.

I train with bands, box, and some accessory work. I also do a lot of recovery prehab/rehab type of work (foam rolling, stretching, stretch band work, etc).

Soon I will start Yoga to help with posture and other issues.

Nice lifts!
Why cut to 132, looks like you are strong right where you are.
How old are you?

Hi!
I too am curious about the desire to cut weight…more competition??

Hi ladies!

I am 31 years old.
I have never been that small so I would like to be 130-135lbs.

Janie, welcome! I’ll be very interested to follow your training.

Wow – how did you get so strong so fast? You’ve only been doing this for half a year?

I’m guessing she trained much longer but started competing this year.
Welcome Janie - those are impressive lifts!

YEY Jane you came over! Now I’m trying to get Hardway too.

welcome! the more and more i read about PL…the more i’m re-thinking my mindset when it comes to training. looking forward to your journal

Thanks for reading!!

Yes, get Hardway over here!! It will be awesome!!

Well just a little history… I was once a 210lbs kid/teenager/woman. I have managed to lose approx 60lbs. I have kept most of the weight off for the past 3-4 years. I have been active since the age of 25/26.
Powerlifting came in the picture this year because I saw some guys powerlifting. I have been lifting weights but not actual powerlifting before training with them. My form was way, way off…
I asked if I could train with them and they said yeah…and I have been ever since. My gym homies are very old school and super/crazy strong. They fixed my form, worked me hard, and got me in competition (even though I was not ready).
Since PLing I have gained weight…approx 5-7lbs. I started at 138/140lbs. Although I do not like what the scales reads, I am starting to like what the mirror reflects!

Awesome and Inspiring!

And how cool that your group took you under your wing like that!

Well today I skipped the squats…I might do them tomorrow or Wednesday. The plan is box squats with monster mini bands- 8x3. It is going to be speed work. It all depends on how I feel. I had some discomfort today:(

I foam rolled by back and spine. I did some work with the flex bands. I followed some of the PT ex. I have. I probably did about 15-20 mins of it. I am also going to ice my upper/mid back.

I am also excited about the pilates I will start to do…on the REFORMER!! sounds fun too. Hopefully this will help me with posture and other issues.

The diet was good.

coffee-black
m1: tuna+brocc
m2: tuna +broc
m3:tuna
m4-chicken and cheese with mushrooms

I might have a protein shake later. I am surprised that I am not hungry. MUST cut to 132 by Dec.
I ate a lot of tuna because it is easy and no prep work.
I weigh in next week. I want to see where I will weigh

What did you weigh the last time you weighed yourself?

Squats + box + mini bands
1x2 bar with band
95lbs 8 sets of 3

First time I did the squats with bands. The tension was good, especially up top. I really worked on form and exploding up. I sat on the box slowly…no plopping down ( not good for spine) then exploded to the top. I would like to work up to 135lbs on the box w/bands. I can get there fast…I only had 1 set that became difficult. I almost got pushed down!

15 mins on treadmill total-I sprinted as well up to 7.5mph.

stretched and foam rolled back. Felt happy

Diet is good…I had very few carbs today and 4 meals.
I also take fish oils, osteo-flex, and a multiV.

I was going to call you a slacker if you didn’t post tonight.

Bobbi, I was starting to feel like a slacker. I forced myself to the gym today…but once I was setting up my rack I got excited! I cannot wait for pilates. I thought I was doing Yoga, but it turns out it is Pilates on the reformer!! Have you ever done that? I really want to work on posture, core, and other issues I got goin’

That sounds like fun. I’ve been meaning to take a yoga class. For the flexibility…yah…

I eat tuna out of the can at work. I am that lazy.
I’ve always wanted to try a reformer - you’ll have to give a full review once you’ve done your session.

First session Pilates on the mat. It was good breathing, stretching and core work. Major core work. I am sore this evening! Next week I will do the reformer. I was very relaxed afterwards!

Bench + bands
8 sets of 3 @ 70 lbs.
-that is all I could handle. The monster mini bands had so much tension. Last two sets were soooper hard.
3 sets of 2 close grip 70lbs no bands

1 mile run 6.0-7.5mph

light stretching

diet is good. It was a good day!
