100 Pushups

Congrats on the numbers HH.
I am 34 and just got to 100 pushups. I have to sneak off because of my son. If not he thinks I am playing horsey and can only get maybe 30. As for pullups I started out with maybe only 2. Now since greasing the groove I can do 10 to front 10 to the back and between 5-7 chinups after all that.

I used to have the same problem with my dog, when I got down on all fours he thought it was his time to show me how much love he could give me, lol. More like bucking bronco then horesy.

Hmm…the point about all that stress being put on one elbow made me think long and hard. At my age, injuries take FOREVER to heal. So, I reluctantly have to give up the idea of 100 1-arms. Damn!!!

Alright, I need a new goal. Ideas guys?

Why don’t you elevate your feet? Try for a hundred with your feet up on a chair.

You could eventually work this into a handstand pushup challenge for yourself.

Question for Headhunter and anyone else on this thread: my chest and triceps work is primarily focused on getting my bench press higher, and am looking to start real powerlifting training in the next couple of weeks. But at the same time, this thread has reminded me that I’d like to get to a place where I can do about 75 pushups (right now can probably eke out 50, barely). Do you think it’s possible to be focused mainly on a big(ger) bench while also improving pullups through daily sets, or will this compromise recovery? Should I take these goals one at a time?

Hell, go for 200 push-ups! I got up to 173 before I got distracted and quit. I got up to 40 pull-ups, though, and about 58 dips. Go for 50 dips or so. The most one-armers I’ve done is 30 per, and that was a real bitch. But congratulations, man. That is a good accomplishment. Most people (not us) can barely eke out 20 push-ups.

About how long did it take you to do the one arm pushes. I’m still on the elevated version?

I really don’t know. I have been able to do one-armers since the eight grade. If you can do 100 regular push-ups, you can usually break out a couple of one-armers.

I’ve had this dilemma as well. My arms are around 18". You start to lose size when you increase the reps, as the fibers switch over to endurance. In my sport (TKD), you have to punch and kick hard, but be able to do this for 2 or 3 minutes!

If you mix training, you’ll keep most of your strength if you lift heavy one day/week and do high rep stuff the other times. But, size won’t come.

You may be different, as I’m 51 years old.

best avatar ever!! LMAO

If you want a new goal, you could always do 100 one arm pull ups

I’m pretty crazy but even I wouldn’t think about that one
