1 rep max deadlift

I have been training at the gym for 8 months went from 70kg bodyweight to 80kg bodyweight and I pulled 110kg for 15 reps in a row, online calculator says my estimated 1 rep max is 165kg. How unusual is this for new gym goers?

It is not at all unusual for new gym goers to get bigger and stronger after 8 months of training

When I was a pup and lifted heavier in certain lifts, I found that multiple reps in a lift, at a lower weight, did not translate to a heavier one rep max. I did not bench press 250 lbs. (letā€™s say) 10 times and then have a one rep max at 320 lbs. I had to work my way up in increments. Others might have a different experience, but I find it suspect that an online calculator can divine what your one rep max will be with a fairly significant difference in weight. However, great job on the size and strength gains. Good job.

IMO, max singles are of little value. When training deadlifts to increase strength I did 4 rep max. 2 or 3 sets. Quit the last rep you believe that you can complete.

You can estimate your 1 rep max through trial and error. Start with 2% of the weight for every rep. That is if can do the weight 5 reps, that approximately 90% of your 1 rep max.

Keep in mind that the calculation for the deadlift might be more than you can do. The deadlift from the floor offers no stretch reflex on the first rep to get it off the floor. Many lifts do involve stretch reflex on the first rep, e.g., squat and bench press.

Another obstacle with doing deadlift max single reps is inefficient bar path on the first rep. Many people find that the second rep in the deadlift is easier than the first rep when doing touch and go reps.

I brought my 70kg college girlfriend to a gym once. She pulled 120kg on deadlift, complained it was boring, and asked to leave.
