1.5 Yrs Training, Dissappointed

22 y/o
6’2

I just performed a short cut to guage my progress since i’ve started. The before pics are at 180LBS and the after ones are at my current 208LBS. I don’t think i’ve gained all that much fat along the way but overall i have to say i’m somewhat dissappointed by my progress.

I won’t be happy until i obtain that “thick” look, which at my height will probably mean i’ll have to be hitting 240LBS. I was 218 before my cut and now a reasonably lean 208. My strength levels have remained almost exactly the same which lead me to think I lost minimal muscle.

Bumps along the road:
-about 1 or 1.5 months not training when i moved country
-a total of approx 3 months poor diet during stressful periods (law school…)

What do I want?
-take a look at the pics and tear me apart even more lol
-i guess my biggest obstacle has always been diet so any tips that you have used to keep it consistent would be great. sometimes finding the motivation to shove 4000 calories down my throat every single day is something i struggle with. I guess i need to just man up and eat.

Front shot

Wheels (or lack thereof), sadly no before pic to compare

Can you elaborate on your routine? You should have made more progress if you were really and truly kicking ass in the gym. You look like a somewhat narrow framed 6’2", so getting thick and huge is gonna take a few years of dedication. Easy answer for more calories: double protein shake with meals, olive oil and almonds.
Who is that man/woman thing in your avi? lol…

based on your back muscles and forearms I suggest you start Squatting and Deadlifting

  • stop getting wasted every friday and saturday, and you are good to go :>

You gained 28lbs of lean mass. Why are you complaining? It may be that you’re not doing things optimally but you’ve made decent progress from where you started.

Ya man that sucks big time, you dont look like youve really come along at all. I guess just keep hitting the gym. Im only kidding by the way. You are showing gains, keep it up.

Ya I clicked the wrong link, so here is something positive. Why is he complaining?, he’s coming along great. I think the answer is most of these guys expect results really fast. And 1.5 years aint shit, ive been at it since 04 constantly with no real end goal or expectations other than shedding extra weight and staying healthy, through my years of training ive noticed that sometimes you get results fast and sometimes you sort of drag for a while. I would suggest if you want to see results fast, change your entire workout and leave all of those things to the side for a while and then go back to them later. Shock yourself into growth, it works. Completely change everything your doing. [quote]The Rattler wrote:

Am I missing something here?

I’m not seeing the problem here. Your photos look remarkably different. Yeah okay you didn’t make as much progress as you wanted to or potentially could have but 30 pounds in 1.5 years isn’t too shaby. Beats all the skinny kids in my gym that I’ve seen around for years that havn’t changed a bit. Whats the difference in your strength between when you started and now?

SBG

I mean, you could have gained more I guess. I’m not seeing the part where you should be disappointed though.

Are you serious? Gaining 28lbs in a year and a half is BRILLIANT progress! Especially seeing as you didn’t get fat.

rejoice!

Don’t listen to this. You are making progress, why the fuck would you mess with that.

You gained 28 pounds of lean mass in a year and a half. That’s great fucking progress. This game is a life long endevor, don’t expect to get everything in a year. Just imagine where you’re going to be 5 years from now if you keep it up.

You would mess with that to hit different muscles and angles in the body. Once you have switched up for a while, then go back to the old routine and I guarantee he would see more overall results (More noticable than right now for what he is looking for). Not to say where he has made it to is not noticable but you see what im saying right?

Also whats the point of only working the same muscles the same way constantly? Unless your working only to “look big”, personally i train more for overall strength and functional power. The more areas you hit the stronger you will be, because they all work together.

At 6’2" and eating 4k calories a day, I’ve said you made some very solid progress.

What does your training look like?

What is non-functional power?

Training legs if you’re wheelchair-bound?

Non functional power is only having a couple strong points. “Training to look good”, Trust me i know alot of guys that look extremely in good shape and do not even touch on my strength or endurance. They know it, been a topic of conversation many times and many pissing contests.Im not arguing im just saying change your workout if your not happy with where your at.

I also am surprised that you are disappointed. I am JEALOUS!!! I’m 20 and in college, been lifting regularly for ~6 years, and for probably 3 years, I didn’t make ANY progress.

At the same time, keep in mind that you are learning a lot about your body and gaining experience on how to improve. That is always how I am able to personally justify wasted time, because such failures help me to improve my plans in the future.

Out of curiosity, what has your lifting schedule and diet been like? Also, what are your max lifts? Very curious. Thanks!

This is fucking stupid. You don’t take your car to the shop when it’s running perfectly.

Muscles only do one thing, contract. It doesn’t matter what “angle” you “hit them” at, they contract and that’s it.

Now your saying that keeping the same movments isn’t good for strength? I guess all these guys doing squats, deadlifts, benches, presses, and rows have been doing it wrong.
