Just a few thoughts on the top 6…
Toney: By far and away the most pleasing physique of all the big guys. I think he nailed it on the head during the postgame interview with the timing of his carb up. Hopefully he can put it all together and really pop. The conditioning is there, just needs to be filled out for the prejudging. Probably should have placed higher. I think releasing those photos was a mistake, and people were expecting more, and when they weren’t “wowed” he got lost in the mix.
Silvio: He really does look like he’s straight out of a comic book. Crazy proportions, just a little lacking in his back and calves. Also suffers from looking completely different than anyone else, tough to compare. Always comes in peeled, should continue to de well in the smaller shows, maybe can pull a Dexter one day.
Branch: Motherfucker is grainy as hell. Crazy look to him, those wheels are out of control. If he could continue to bring up his back, I think he’s got a shot to win the Arnold or the O. At some point it could be tough to turn away all that beef. I think he could have been 2nd here, but no real complaint.
Moe: I thought he looked better here than he did at the Ironman. He was more conditioned and continues to bring a real solid package. Not sure that he’ll ever win one of the big shows, but assuming he continues to improve will definitely be a contender at some of the smaller shows.
Vic: I thought he was a tad off at the prejudging. Nothing real major, holding a small amount of water, and the legs looked a bit smoother than normal. Although, he was much tighter at the night show. His back shots are unbelievable, and has a very pleasing physique overall. Assuming his legs get back to normal for the O, I think he could easily make a run for the title.
Kai: The best thing that could have happened to him was all the talk of him being heavy and possibly dropping out of the show. When he stepped on stage and looked great, he gave them that “wow” factor. His legs are, like Branch, among the best in the business. His waist is always something people bring up as a weak point, and while it’s no Toney, it’s not one of the guts of the past either. He stole the show, and is a deserving champ, who should be better at the O and make a serious run at the title.
Agree with B-mac. I was at the show and all the competitors looked great. I was glad Kai won. He was super emotional about the win so it obviously meant a lot to him. Branch was a beast and I think Vic’s main weak point was the softness of his legs. Compared to Branch and Kai there were no striations in the quads.
Lastly I was impressed by Silvio’s physique. He was clearly upset with his 5th place standing but the top 5 were definitely hard to judge. They all looked good. I highly recommend going to the show if you ever get a chance. The presentation was pretty awesome.
Arnold gave a lifetime achievement award (they give one every year) to Franco Colombo. It was great to hear him speak and see him up there next to Arnold. He has done a lot of great things for this sport.
Does anybody have videos of the posing? I’m especially interested in Kai’s. I only caught the award ceremony.

I just watched the pose-down replay… Kai Green is by far one of the most impressive bodybuilders i’ve ever seen. In my opinion, he’s the next Mr. Olympia as well. He’s just absoloutely insane. INSANE.

Wow. After watching the videos… I am ready to say, I’ve never been this stoked for anyone to win ANY SPORTING EVENT in the past. Lol.
I don’t know how to explain it well, but I will just say the guy is a true artist. That goes into everything he does, and really puts him on another level. Not that I don’t like the other competitors - except for, OK, Vic, who I find to be boring as all hell - but they just don’t compare, in my mind, to Kai.

Kai did not look all that to me, sure he was huge but his proportions seemed off and not to mention his belly was looking horrible! Branch on the other hand didn’t have the ninja turtle belly going on. Victor IMO looked the best. It should have been

Agreed. Kai just has a short torso which means as he gets bigger, there is simply less room between the bottom of his lats and the top of his hips as opposed to someone taller like Vic and especially like Toney Freeman.
One benefit of Freeman’s height is that it means he has a much longer torso which shows off his waist even more.
Kai looked amazing which should instantly shut up everyone who was talking shit because he quit working with Charles Glass.
Apparently, though Glass is no doubt good at his job, he is not all knowing and not working with him doesn’t mean you lose contests.
