I am curious, ZMA is merely 30mg of zinc, 400 mg of magnesium and some vitamin b6. Why is it always chelated with monomethionine and apartate? every single brand that sells ZMA chelates their zinc and mag with apartate? Is there a reason for this, or is it just cheaper?
reason i ask is because i dont do well with apartate for some reason. thought id just go buy some magnesium citrate, other form of zinc and b6, and take them together. same results right?
Yes, any organic (chelated) form of zinc with magnesium citrate and B6 will work fine.
As to why every brand of ZMA uses the same formula, or at least always uses zinc monomethionine and aspartate, ZMA is a trademarked name for that given formulation, for which license has been granted to some manufacturers.

I think pretty much yeah.
I’ve read some people complain that the B6 leaves them wired if they take it before bed, so they just to zinc and magnesium, as well.

B6 gives me such intense and prolonged dreams I can’t use a large dose before bed or I literally will lay in bed all morning trying to stay “in” my dream world.
