and I don’t want to argue with you but I assure you there are kids with much less free time than you that play multiple sports and these kids won’t grow into adults wishing they’d have skipped sports and spent more time on homework during their high school years . . again, not being argumentative but just providing some advice from someone who is involved with youth athletics and has lived it

Whatever. That means one sport I don’t have to think about.

I really just don’t want to play a sport! I get their good and all, its just I don’t want to have to practice and do stuff all the time for it. I don’t care about sports. Sure, they can be fun, and they help build coordination and teamwork. But Im not spending a bunch of money on anything, and Im not doing anything I can’t do/don’t have transportation for. I just want something fun to do. And again, if Im gonna do a sport that’s in like a competitive league or whatever, I want to be good at it.

He means, in PA, field hockey is a sport played by and offered to the young ladies in the competitive format. For young men a similar sport is La Crosse. Then lift weights for no other purpose than to lift weights. Many of us started as pups and are pushing through middle age into older age. You might want to think about that. No time for baseball (such a shame)? Then strength train. Eventually you might fall into a powerlifting club? Good Luck!

My workout yesterday was subpar, but It wasn’t unexpected. I felt gassed after it. Only did 3 sets of bench (I had a reason I think, I forget. Maybe I just just too tired?), 2 sets of squat(my back and my knees were hurting a bit, must not be used to it), but I did do all 5 sets of pullups. I think my body just needs this week to get used to the work again.

My throat has been sore the last few days. And I’ve had a bit of a cough. I wish it would go away. I do NOT have time to be sick again it is not happening.

Im super sore today. I might do my conditioning based on how I’m feeling. But I might not, and also I’m a little concerned with my sore throat.

Long day today.

Cough is getting more developed, and voice is a bit out. If I get up after sitting I get a sharp pain in the head for a moment, or just a little dizzy

Ate too much today. Its only maintainence, but still not the best. Ate too many corn muffins.

We will see how up I am for working out tomorrow. I’ll try but not gonna say I will be able to go full effort.

Strength training day maybe. Still feel sore but might be able to get something in.

Sore throat still persists. Wish it would go away.

Training went… surprisingly well today! I got in every set as planned which was great. I feel my strength coming back.

Today’s food was… mostly good. Strawberry sandwiches are becoming a common food. Toast with butter and sliced strawberries :drooling_face: . Unhealthy foods today were 3 oreos, and a bit of ice cream. Not great ice cream, I think they changed it. Not having any more.

I’ve decided that I don’t care about trying to get “perfect macros”. As long as I get enough protein Im fine. I don’t care that much about fat and carbs being in the perfect ratio. I’d rather have a little more fat. I like butter and fats in meat. It makes them taste good.

In other news; Im scheduled to go to a math competition of Wednesday. Il have to ask my Math teacher on a few things, If I don’t search them up myself. Tomorrow I will start on the practice he gave me, pretending its the real test. I think the paper said I get an hour and fifteen minutes.

One thing I’ve noticed with this is some of it is word-play. You really have to pay attention. Some of it is similar to “Turn this expression with 3 variables into this [whatever], multiply the three variables together, and add up the digits”. Better than the AMC testing though, looks more accomplishable.

Before I do that, I just need to add that Ive just realised something.

There has been a lack of actual training content on this log, despite being a training log. Moreso just my ranting and thoughts and updates.

Feb 21 2026 Ought to do some conditioning today.

I should do some conditioning, but not sure if I really should or if I should let myself properly rest. Il probably do that, now that I am thinking about it. Il do some light activity to get myself moving, though. If it wasn’t so wet and chilly, I would go outside and do something.

I did a bit of exercise today. Playing soccer with the neighbors kid, and a bit of indoor march-walking (not February walking, though). I feel much better. Hey, my sore throat is gone!

Feb 22 2026 Rest day

Gotta finish my homework today.

It is supposed to snow in the afternoon/through the night. PLEASE no. I don’t want another 4 day school week. Im sick of them! I swear we haven’t had a full week all month. And we’ve had maybe 1 or 2 since the start of the year.

My weigh in:

I honestly don’t know what’s going on. My weight keeps going up but I’ve been fairly consistent with being in a proper deficit, and I’ve been doing my exercise. Even on the less than ideal diet days, I still probably am only barely breaking maintainence, which should cause the 1lb/ week gain.

…ideas why? I think maybe it has to do with the increase in carbs, but maybe stress is something too? I get enough sleep, so that’s not it.

Im probably just gonna set a goal of 10k steps a day. I think I’m overreacting.

A few factors.

You’ve been sick. The body’s response to illness is inflammation.

You’re coming out of a gaining phase. There is a bit of a “hangover” when it comes to dietary transitions. Even though we’ve cut off the food, the body is still undergoing the recovery process from previous weeks/intakes. When we transition to losing, we can still gain a little in the week or two afterwards. And same when we go from losing to gaining. This often gets people to freak out and rapidly adjust calories.

A third though…

Your standards of “good” have regressed. When we’re in a deficit, we have to be VERY diligent about intake. Everything we eat is an opportunity cost: we could have eaten something else instead. It’s where the notion of “empty calories” comes from. Because again, just from a pure bodyweight standpoint, certain foods are going to be inflammatory. They’re an assault to our internal systems. Even certain natural foods can do this: so just imagine what an Oreo does.

Yeah, I suppose that’s true.

I really don’t get this, but it makes sense. Its momentum. It likes to keep doing what its doing.

That meal I admit wasn’t good. I was thinking of the other meals I ate. But yeah, none of that food helped. But hey, I had spinach with it! It really is crap though.


I found an exercise watch I had that I thought didn’t work anymore. Nope. Just extra dead. I can use that for tracking steps.

I have eaten pretty good today so far, I had fried chicken but it was leftovers so I ate it.

I think I have another idea on why my weight has gone up. My calories may be inaccurate. Because:

Even though I track some stuff in oz, I don’t weigh it. Im literally eyeballing it. I think I’m close though because that’s what I did on my “lean bulk” awhile back, and it worked perfectly.

Yeah, I’d say this is a pretty big issue. I assumed up until this point you had some method of measurement given the precision. People are VERY bad at estimating intake.

I actually have a small scale I can use, I should use it.

Yup. I never count/track macros, but if you ARE going to rely on it, you want accurate measurements.

Spinach is pretty good. Im concerned if I should cut back though, is this too high? its 774% of the RDV% of Vit. K. And even with that, I know spinach can lead to kidney stones due to oxalate levels. Why does all the delicious stuff end up being bad for you? I love spinach its so tasty. I want to get cabbage, but mom doesn’t want it stinking up the house… I love the favor of cabbage…


School is off tomorrow… ugh. I can’t lift either because my brother will be shoveling.
I have a wacked up schedule this week. I have to fit in my lifting after school Wednesday because I’m missing strength for a math competition, and I’ll have to fit it in Saturday too, which isn’t ideal because its one day after a lifting session. But life isn’t ideal, so Il have to get used to this.

In other news, I went to church again today, it was wonderful.

Today is Forgiveness Sunday, where we are called specifically to ask forgiveness and forgive people, namely in the church. That was interesting for me to do, not sure if there are any Orthodox Christians who happen to stumble on this log, I’m sure they understand what Im talking about. First time ever doing that, its the first time going to church this time of year. Tomorrow marks the first day of Great and Holy Lent. Although I wont be doing the “proper” fast (if one truly exists), Im still going to try a bit probably.

I like tangelos! Almost taste like a bottle of lemonade, except it tastes so much healthier and better.

Snack 1

2 “oz” french fries (I don’t even think I know how much an oz is… maybe this is why I gained this much fat…)

A little low, but, eh. I don’t feel like eating anymore, its late anyways.

Tomorrow: I guess conditioning? I think I will do some sort of high intensity. Any suggestions on something from TB that I can do indoor with minimal equipment? Or in general? I have a jump rope I can use, but Im working my way up to being able to use it more.

Tuesday I think I will do a LISS session for about 25 minutes, between school and my college program.

Thursday will probably be the same as Tuesday, but maybe Il do a high intensity session. We have kettlebells, I might use them.
