Next year I want to really work on making our garden grow lots of food to eat, that’s high yield. Now that we chopped the tree in our yard, the garden gets sun most of the day. I have to figure out what I can plant together that would be good, and what I should plant after the first crop is done. I would do the 3 sisters method of planting, but were not putting squash/pumpkin in the yard again.

Yesterday I began weaving a mat out of cat tail leaves, and also made some cordage. The leaves lend very well to this; they have very straight parallel fibers that seem to be comparatively stronger than other materials of that fiber size.
What I do it first take the leaf and run it taught against an edge of like a 2x4, to flatten the chambers in it, then depending if it wants to cooperate I will either take two close section, place in my fingers, and rotate it while wiggling it, or I roll it in my hands. That works faster but it doesn’t always separate the fibers all the way.
I then split it into 2 pieces, and then twist them as you would in making a rope. When I finish my projects I will work on it more. I also want to find a material I can use for making the frame for a basket. The stalks don’t really lend themselves too well for this, as they are only slightly flexible, and the have a taper towards the top, being thicker at the bottom.
I’ve noticed my forehead getting a bit more acne, although my skincare hasn’t changed. I also think I saw a post on here that said about getting worse acne after lifting heavy. Is this true? I don’t really mind if I have it or not, but its interesting that it would cause it.

I did 30 minutes of knitting this morning, Il do the rest sometime later. I harvested more of the cattail leaves, and I took 8 and crudely separated the fibers, and I have it drying in the sun. I will see if I can process it to become softer and maybe suitable for yarn. Of course it wont be like wool or fleece, probably not even like cotton, but it should be tolerable.
August 14, W7D4 Max Strength day
Hopefully Il be able to lift at the gym today. Last time using the gym before I go back to school and I can use the weight room
Today’s assignments:
Get stuff ready for school.
Then after that, Il do whatever. Maybe knitting, maybe do stuff with cattail leaves, or maybe research what crops to grow in our garden that have high yield/higher amount of plants per square unit, are nutritious, and what I can grow with and right after eachother that would benefit the garden.
I didn’t mention yesterday, I made a sort of purse and a basket. Still need to make a handle for the basket, we’ll see how that works out.
I think in order to efficiently seperate the fibers of the cattails, I need a sturdy but fine toothed metal comb or brush. Il try just a regular comb first actually. This could be a really useful fiber. It’s gonna be like a golden/tan color when dried and should make a good string, maybe even for clothing. if I can figure out a way to quickly spin up the fiber with something I can make, that would be good.
Plenty of work to do today.
I’m going to put a lot of effort into finishing that sweater that way I can move on to other projects. if I don’t do that, Il end up with a million projects that I wont do.

Bugs are horrible outside mosquitoes biting, and gnats landing on our arms and legs. Why are so many gnats landing on us? That’s not normal. I’ve been around a lot of gnats and theyve only ever really landed in my eyes and ears, not arms and legs.
In other news, we all need to learn how to farm. We ain’t got much time left anymore. Any day now, one of the cards of society’s tower is gonna fall, and its gonna all come crashing down. This tactical barbell training has come at no improper time, although perhaps a little later than would be good, but nonetheless sooner than it could have which is good. We all must get stronger, and endurant.

August 15 - W7D5 - HIC

I never thought I would say it, or at least not yet. Kids these days… What is with them? My neighbor’s kids (6 and 8) used to be nice to be around, but now the girl (6) always insists that when we play that shes either the “popular girl” or the “evil girl”. Why does she want to be evil? And is she having problems at school that are leading to self esteem issues, which makes her want to play as a popular girl to make up for this?
And their attention spans are non-existant almost, at least thats what it seems. We were going to play farm, and I was the cow, but I needed to make some rope so she could lead me, and I told her that I was making it for that. Halfway through she asks me what its for. I can’t speak for a few seconds because Im thinking about what to say without raising my voice, and then eventually I tell her again what its for, and that I already told her that.
Then, I asked them if they wanted to learn how to make rope, because it is a very valuable skill to learn, and they said yes. I’m showing them how to do it, and they keep looking away at something, not paying attention. I keep telling them they have to look to see what I’m doing. The girl, I keep telling her to twist the rope towards herself, and she keeps twisting it the wrong way. I keep correcting her, saying “No you have to twist it this way (making a very exaggerated hand movement)”. Then she says how had it is.
Its not even remotely difficult! You hold the one end (since I had already made a bit of the rope prior to this), and you twist the bottom towards you, and put it over. Twist the bottom, put it over. Its that simple. If maybe they just couldn’t twist the rope because the rope wouldn’t cooperate, sure, that’s a real reason. but it wasn’t a reason.
Am I thinking this through too much? Is this normal behavior? I remember about a year ago they had much more attention span. its because of their tablets, I’m sure. And playing with them made me remember playing make-believe back when I was in elementary school.
And then I was going inside, the kids also went inside, the boy asks me if he can take (something, not sure, maybe something from the cattail stuff) into his house. He asks me if HE can take something into HIS house. I actually get a little irritated at this point, but try to remain calm, and loudly talk over (he was a little bit away) “I don’t know! Its your house!” Like why is he asking me? Then this morning, I was thinking, and I think maybe he wasn’t asking to take it INTO HIS HOUSE. I think he may have been asking if HE COULD TAKE IT into his house
I always pick evil characters when I play games. Primarily because I’m not evil outside of when I play games, so games give me a chance to be something else. It’s fun to pretend.

Eh. Didn’t like it. I don’t like roller coasters. They give me headaches from the g-forces. I do not like it because it feels like I’m going to die when I am on them. I do not like that.
I had food, maybe enough but probably not. Got lots of steps in. I didn’t realize we were going the whole day for 7 days. I thought maybe we were gonna come back after like 3 or 4 hours so I could have dinner and get my workout in. I should have known better to assume anything. Wasn’t very fun, probably the best thing was going on one of the water rides, to cool off and have my shirt off. Still just ok.
August 16 2025 W7D6 E day
3 mile (about 30 minute) run today. I need to get my workout in today since i missed yesterdays workout, which sucks because i enjoy sprints.
2 days until school starts… 1 day until I can check how much money ive earned over the summer. When school starts I will finally have a consistant routine. Get up at 5:30, do prayers, Eat breakfast, get ready, leave at 6:57 for the bus stop, school, if needed stay after to get workout in, get home, eat, free time to do what i want (might make some of this study time, or maybe later), dinner, shower, 8:00 get ready for bed.

Any good recipes for butternut squash? I bought a good sized one for the seeds (for planting), I haven’t cut it up yet and I want to make something good. How do I cook them to be nice and soft?
