On a serious note, I’d welcome any serious lifter, regardless of gender. If a woman wants to get strong, so be it, I have nothing against it. I’d rather encourage her. As many say here, strong women are hot.
I train at home, so there’s no women, or anyone for that matter, in my gym.
Anyone who’s serious and bring a serious attitude to the table helps everyone out, regardless of gender.
Good luck on your journey. Just remember, nothing is every heavy enough.

It’s just a local gym. Why would this matter?

Well if you’re female and u ain’t running on the treadmill or doing the elliptical at say, the local YMCA, then that automatically makes you an outcast. However, if you train at Golds Gym in Venice, if people spot you doing a deadlift, I’ll bet they won’t even spare you a second glance. It’s always about the gym environment and who goes there.

Girls lifting heavy is an oxymoron unless they’re elite level powerlifters or olympians. However when I see them doing exercises with good for as though they know what they’re doing I think it’s pretty cool.[/quote]
You really think this? There are a lot of girls out there that can out lift lots of guys that aren’t powerlifters or olympians. Not saying I’m one of them, but to saying girls lifting heavy is an oxymoron is just not true. But I guess everyones idea of heavy is different.
i’ve mentioned this in another thread, my GF does inclines w/ 50lbs DB’s she’s little too… 135lbs, she squats 225lbs for reps as well, she turns a few heads at her secondary gym PF, at our regular gym she blends in more.
if your a big beast of a lady it’s not as cool (my opinion), however if your a fit women pushing heavy weight it rocks!
usually fit men like fit women, the non-weight training population of men often are intimidated by chicks w/ muscle, as are the anorexic cardio broads. Sadly a lot of women don’t get how heavier weights will slim them down and harden them up.

Wow! Your GF is STRONG! Good for her!
I am lucky enough to be one of the women that learned lifting heavy WILL slim you down and harden you up! I’m trying to spread the word to anyone who will listen!
I did a stint of Olympic Lifting for 2 years with an O lifting team and i remember the first day i trained. There were girls there hands chalked up, sweat pouring, grunting, squatting, cleaning and snatching more weight than i could at that point, which was mad to see. What i also found rather funny was it really turned me on. I mean surprisingly so. These ladies had thighs and assess most women would hate but their rawness and power just stayed with me long after training.
I can also say that the leanest women in my current commercial gym also lift the heaviest weights of all the female’s.
There are only 2 girls at my gym who squat/dead and both look great doing so. They get tons of looks from everyone at the gym (some “dam she’s fine” looks and some “respect” looks as well as some envy-looks)
It is difficult to watch an attractive woman squat and/or deadlift without feeling like a bit of a perv b/c your watching the same areas for form that you would if you were ‘checking her out’.
It is highly likely they think you are crazy strong, unless your form sucks, and they are probably thinking, “Damn I wish I had the fortitude to do that. Damn that girl is hot, wow, nice ass, I hope she doesn’t see me looking at her.” Mesmerizing…
anyone that puts in a true effort is good in my book regardless of sex! “lifting heavy” is different for everyone! it took me two years to get my wife to listen to me and lift heavy but now she loves it and looks better because of it! shes even competed in one strongman (strongwoman) contest!
I think its great to see women doing this. I know many women who won’t do squats, deads, etc. most to the fact they think they will get big and bulky. A few months ago finally got a girl in my gym to start adding squats and deads to her workout. She was worried she will get big muscles, but last week she told me that she has gotten more toned and stronger in the last few months than she has in the previous year she started with the weight training.
