President-to-be Obama plans to pass a windfall profits tax and share the money with you!
"Forcing big oil companies to take a reasonable share of their record breaking windfall profits and use it to help struggling families with direct relief worth $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a married couple… The rebates would be fully paid for with five years of a windfall profits tax on record oil company profits… "
You didn’t do anything to earn it, it was stolen from those who produced the oil, refined it, shipped it, and now…since many people resent having to pay $3.59 to go 25 or so miles…you get your money back!!
What a shining example of mind numbing ignorance. I can’t believe he’s as close as he is to becoming POTUS. That he would offer such a “solution”, should cast serious doubt into the minds of voters this fall.
Now before you wacky leftist start to clamor all over yourselves and this forum about what a disappointment Bush has been, consider this; electing a shining example of left wing ignorance, does not undue eight years of right wing ignorance.
Remember folks; we’re looking to elect the person MOST qualified for the position, not the antithesis to Mr. Bush.
This should serve as a terrific example of what a collectivist Mr. Obama is, and that he is simply not the man for the job.

I still wouldn’t be surprised if Obama ultimately lost this election because of his race. (as opposed to losing it because of his ignorance and banter)
While the media may worship Obama as a demi-god and light bearer for racial equality, i still think there are more then a few racist Americans out there who will vote against him because of race. Their voice is simply not represented by the media.
obviously, if he loses the election we will never really know how much race played a part.

I don’t think it’s race that dooms him. I don’t know how many people I deal with that have told me that they won’t vote for him because he’s Muslim. (Yes, I am aware that he’s not Muslim)
Of course, the politicians never tell you that the only people who pay taxes are the consumers. Taxes are just additional expenses that companies incorporate into their prices. So we’ll get back the money we paid for the corporate taxes.
The ignorance of politicians is amazing, unless of course, they are counting on the ignorance of the populace.

I wonder how many of the people complaining about this idea would be willing to give the money back to an oil company.
Those of us complaining are probably productive members of society so we probably won’t see a cent of that money anyway.
I see, proposed rebates for “struggling families” whatever the hell that means exactly. Just another band-aid solution.

I am not too familiar with SOX but I believe profit is still after operating expense. Hmmm…hand over even more money to gov’t or pay raises for everyone. I am sure there are many other ways to get around this. Contractors, reinvestment in existing infrastructure, etc.
Any of this, of course means declines in our individual investments, 401k, and pension funds. What about those that live on fixed income and need those dividend checks?
I would love to hear from Obama where he thinks the profits are going.
This amounts to subsidizing air pollution. He must not care about the environment at all. Someone call Mr. Gore.
Seriously though, how can Mr. Obama think that stealing profits from Big Oil is going to help consumers in the long run? This will only help lower the supply of oil and raise the price…which will only make the oil profits much bigger the following year. Carry this out ad infinitum and we can see the over all effect this will have on the average American.
If Mr. Obama really cared about the economic health of Americans he would do all he can to help grow productivity in all sectors of the economy.

This is an over-simplification. Added expenses to corporations are not necessarily recouped in the price of goods and services. This is where marginally efficient producers can be wiped out if cost become too high. The overall effect is that supply is lowered because producers are priced out of the market which in the long run raises prices.
Price is always a function of supply and demand. It does not matter that it cost producer X, $x to produce some good and producer Y, $y. The price fetched in the market is a result of supply and demand of all like goods produced. If producer X cannot keep costs low enough to make a profit he goes out of business.
Generally speaking, any action the government takes to regulate profits will have the effect of lowering productivity (and not necessarily just in the regulated industry) in the long run.
I would like to see government subsidies and tax breaks repealed, seeing as how every damn quarter oil companies are posting record profits.
And then you could take that money and invest it into alternative fuel/energy solutions, seeing as how the oil companies aren’t.
While i like this idea, if we take away subsidies and tax breaks then oil companies will just raise prices to make up the profits. I don’t want to pay 8$(made up number) a gallon for gas, do you?
Oh yea, hybrids are our way out of this situation. I guess he can make it sound romantic with his lyrical way of speaking and morons will buy in to it hook, line and sinker… But he can go fuck himself, the cocksucker. I more likely shine my dick with a high speed buffer than drive a hybrid. I have one goal for my cars and that horsepower, period. I am not wearing an environmental hairshirt to please a bunch of assholes who made up problems so as to scaring the population into their control…Oh Obama save US!
Brave new world here we come. I can see the signs now.
“Obama Saves”, “Obama loves you”, “One nation under Obama”…
Obama, suck my fucking dick and drop dead asshole!
