Your First Car

I Had a 1989 TA GTA that I restored when I was 15 to drive when I was 16, was completely restored top to bottom.

Also had a 1998 GSX-R 750

Two things no 16 Year old boy should ever be allowed to own, had a few court dates due things done in those vehicles.

where did some of you get the money for these pimp rides?
Started saving when I was 13, bought the car at 14 with a $2000 loan from my grandmother.

I worked three jobs through the summer when I was 16-18.

Up at 4:30am Pick sweet corn until 7:30am
Breakfast at the farm for free.
Work at a garage repairing cars form 9am until 3pm.
Off to work pumping gas form 3:30pm until 9:30pm
Pick the grilfriend up, run around, catch a few hours sleep and start all over again the next day…
Weekends I only worked at the gas station from 8am til 3pm so the weekend was free for the most part.
During school I only worked repairing cars mostly for friends and fellow motorheads.
Ah, the good ole days…

I feel like I wasted my youth smoking weed and getting blowjobs in my $600 shitbox car…

naaaaahhh

1967 Mustang Charcoal Gray 351 clevland, I rolled it 7 times and it became a doghouse. :frowning:

Actually, all that money allowed for plenty of that too!!

Also started working when I was 12. Bought the car myself and spent my own money fixing it up, paint job, tires and wheels. Was working on the interior when I rolled it. I grew up poor as fuck. In the 80’s you could always find good deals on older cars. Now there is no way in hell you could get this car for the price I paid.

Nice. Is it a v8? I have an 82 project and an 86 IROC that I’ve done a few things to. I want an ls1 4th gen a lot tho.
It’s a V6 at the moment, but I’ve been slowly buying up the parts to do a swap. I’m probably gonna drop one of those 6.0L LQ9 Escalade engines in it. Oh, how sweet it’s gonna be.

The 3rd Gen Camaros in my opinion are the nicest out of all of them. The IROC series is just, jizzworthy.
I agree with everything said…

I had a beautiful 1973 Malibu wagon. Dark blue metallic paint with wood-grain decals on the sides, 350 c.i. V8. You could climb into the engine compartment to work on it. I got about 6 mpg and had to put in a quart of trans fluid every week, but it got the job done. I got it up to about 110 mph on the Capital Beltway once before it did the shimmy-shake and I got scared and had to slow down. I don’t have any pics handy.

This causes me physical pain.

I feel the same way… regarding your avatar.

As for the Mustang, I wonder how many are sitting around in back yards dying slowly. There’s a swamp on my parents property in Michigan that’s the cemetary for a burgundy '64 cadillac… We used to jump on the trunk lid to flush rabbits out from under the chassis. Sad stuff.

'86 Monte Carlo similar to this but it was chocolate milk brown and had peanut butter vinyl. Drove it for about a month then my cousin wrecked it. I beat his ass over that bs…still pisses me off today.

'70 GTO

Mine was silver with black vinyl roof, got it new when I turned 16. Gas was cheap back then…

Wish I’da kept it.

You should go kick his ass again. That Monte is one of the most awesome cars ever.

It did me too. Both physical and mental. I put a lot of my hard earned money into that. My father still gives me shit to this day 20 years later.

Old news. But I finally found this pic and didn’t want to be sad all by myself.

A little late to the party (story of my life), but I thought I’d share:

84 Plymouth Turismo, bought for $300. Mine was white with burgundy trim. Traded up for a Dodge Charger after that.

'92 F-150 4x4 extended cab XLT. Had almost 230k kms on it when I bought it. Put over another 100k on it in the next 4 years. Thing was reliable and had a ton of torque, not much of a top end tho. Sold it for 600 bucks and a case of beer. Still miss that thing when I’m out in the woods, was the definition of a beater, was never worried to scratch the paint on that sucker.
