Starting this training log to hold myself accountable. A little about me: I graduated college 7 months ago, moved to a big city, and started my career in construction management. I am a blue belt in BJJ and compete semi-frequently. I try to train BJJ 3-5x per week, so I will include martial arts in this training log. I have been lifting fairly seriously for the past 4 years, but have put on about 15-20 lbs since moving and don’t look as good as I did in college. I’m floating around 200 lbs right now (6’1" tall), and my goal is to get down to the lower 180s, high 170s by April.
I’m currently running a bro split, and lift 4-5x per week. For logging purposes, I will follow the following format: SetsxWeightxReps, as I’ve seen others do. I am also gonna post my end total calories and macros for days I track calories. I’m also gonna include the previous night’s sleep hours in my log, because I am trying to improve that as well.
No BJJ today as my gym is having plumbing issues, but will be hitting back this evening.
Went over my calories today. I’m going on a Bachelor trip this weekend, but may try to get a quick shoulder and arms workout in, or maybe just skip arms this week, we’ll see. Also not planning on tracking the next 2 days, but will be back to 2400 calories or below on Sunday. Ready to see the pounds drop.
My degree is in Civil Engineering, but I’m working as a project manager doing highway/street construction. I haven’t taken my FE yet, but I plan on taking it in the near future.
Spent the weekend in New Orleans for a Bachelor trip. Will be back on track tomorrow. Went somewhat hard and didn’t track anything. I will give an update on weight tomorrow. Upset stomach today probably due to all the sugar drinks.
Bodyweight: 201.0
Calories: Didn’t track
Sleep: 7 hours, slept great
Didn’t track cause I ate out both meals today (lunch and dinner). Went to lunch for my boss’ last day, went to dinner to watch the Cowboys whoop up on the Bucs. Weight looked good despite my weekend in NO. Gonna skip arms and hit chest today. I plan on getting back on the mats Wednesday.
Finished up with some core. Just some crunches and what not, nothing too fancy. Honestly one of my better workouts in a while. 225 for 6 is the best I’ve done in 2 years, and I did it twice.
Got noon BJJ today (Wednesday) and back this evening. I know your technically supposed to lift first, but this way is easier with my schedule.
Bodyweight: 200.4
Calories: 2,090 (189 P, 162 C, 85 F)
Sleep: ~5.5 hours (Had some alcohol and watched the playoff game Monday night so I didn’t sleep too well)
Went to BJJ at noon but the mats were soaked from the morning class and class got canceled. The BJJ gods seem to be punishing me lately.
Back Day:
Pull Ups:
4xBWx10
Iso-Lateral Rows:
1x102x12
1x192x12
3x242x12
Rope Lat Pull Thru:
4x100x12
Seated Cable Rows:
3x140x12
Bodyweight: 198.2
Calories: 2,920 (256 P, 261 C, 101 F)
Sleep:7 hours of really solid sleep, woke up once
I did really good on my diet until the evening. I had some work stress, was pissed I couldn’t train BJJ, and had a date fall through, so I ate some comfort food. I’m not proud of it, it was weak, but it is what it is. Shoulders tomorrow and hopefully some jui-jitsu finally.
Z-guard, over-hook/lockdown, full guard, triangle. Lot of good nuggets on the transition from full guard to triangle today. Got 4 good 4 minute sparring rounds in, and also hit the sequence we drilled once. Solid training day. Shoulders this evening.
Went to a Chinese buffet for lunch with some work folks, no idea what the calories would be. Also am going to a basketball game tonight, and will be in the suite with a buffet as well, plus probably a few beers so not gonna track calories today. Gonna try and not get too off track and lock the diet back in tomorrow.
I lied, skipped lifting and went to evening BJJ because I missed morning class due to something coming up at work, and had a meeting at lunchtime preventing me from making the noon class.
BJJ:
50/50 to 90/10, heel exposure, roll, recapturing heel exposure mid roll, 80/20 or 90/10, heel hook finishing mechanics
Gonna hit back and shoulders together this evening. Hopefully noon BJJ today as well, but can’t say for sure yet.
Trying to navigate working full time, BJJ, lifting, my social life, dating, life in a new city, etc. has been a bit of a challenge for me. I’m not niave enough to expect it to get any easier, as I hope to have kids and what not in the future. I’m not sure if it is obvious in my posts, but BJJ and lifting take a backseat to my other interests/obligations. I still prioritize them as best I can, but am far from perfect. At some point I would like to set up a home gym, so that I can hit my lifting workouts in the morning, and focus on BJJ in the evenings, so if anyone has any suggestions on where to get cheap workout equipment and what I should get first to get the most “bang or my buck”, I am all ears!
