I can’t even figure out how to comment on this. Some things I don’t think I can understand no matter how hard I try.

Article only mentions “hormone injections”. Says nothing about the snip and tuck actually occuring. So is the kid going to get the full blown surgery done later?
As twisted as this all sounds, and is, this could be a case where the childs gender was not certain for whatevr reason at birth, the parents decided they wanted a boy, had the plumbing adjusted accordingly, but in actuality, it should have been a girl. I know i read about something like this in a class in college.

I agree. The article doesn’t say whether there was physical gender crossing. There have been cases where people are raised as girls when they actually have testicles that never descended. This isn’t quite the same as someone who is just mixed up. Without knowing the facts in detail surrounding this one person, it is rush to judgement to claim it is definitely “wrong”.
There have been cases where a child born with both sex organs had their orientation chosen by the mother at birth…only years later to have a child who felt like the choice made was wrong.
I think homophobia clouds some people’s understanding of cases where there are legit concerns as far as gender assignment.

Our German friends must be laughing about having to pay all $40,000 of that. I thought universal health care doesn’t cover elective surgeries? Or the boy’s doctors were stupid enough to think that giving him boobies and a vagina is emergency enough?
The only part of that article that struck me as being horribly horribly wrong was the part where the whole thing was being covered by tax payers.
I don’t give a crap if a boy wants to be a girl. I just don’t want money that could be spent on things of value to me to go to stuff like that.

Strange as it sounds, this isn’t really the kid’s choice. Some babies get a wave of the wrong hormone while still in the womb, and when they come out they are psycologically one gender and physically the other.
All I have to say is that that would suck beyond comparison.
Did any one else see the picture on the second page? She honestly looks like any other fourteen year old girl. As long as she doesn’t have a bulge in the front of her pants I think boys will be trying to pick her up. That could be bad.
On the page with the full story it said that she could not have the actual sex-change operation until she was eighteen.

I understand it can be hard to be discriminated against but there is no need to call names
