Strippers operating the jack would be incredibly inefficient, though it would increase the likelihood of people besides myself actually deadlifting. In a strange way this idea might be crazy enough to work, I will suggest it at the wish meeting on Monday.
Found out I have a muscular imbalance today (shocker I know). It was pointed out in conversation that my left leg is smaller than my right, I explained that I had an ankle fusion and some knee surgeries so these may have made the left side a wee bit smaller, well long story short someone gets a tape measure and the numbers come back sort of shocking, it’s not just my legs that are smaller on the left side, it’s everything:
Calf: Left 17.75" Right 21.25" 3.5" Difference
Thigh: Left 24.5" Right 28.25" 3.75" Difference
Wrist: Left 8.25" Right 8.75" .5" Difference
Forearm: Left 15.5" Right 16.5" 1" Difference
Bicep Left 19" Right 20.25" 1.25" Difference
So does anyone else have this going on? I mean a little variation is understandable I suppose, but this seems like it may become a real issue (if it isn’t one already), should I give up barbelll work and do dumbbells in order to work each side equally, or should I just continue not giving a shit at all?
Yesterday I took my kids to the gym where they climbed rock walls, raced prowlers, flipped tires, carried sandbags and dragged sleds, I held a camera phone and somehow managed to tweak my shoulder.
Today was not my day, getting ready for a game tonight, have a bit of a sinus infection, and didn’t sleep much the past two days, if this were a movie I would hit a PR.

When I was throwing I would be like that. I tried to re-balance over the winter, but always ended up going back to BB so I could move more weight… Never seemed to hurt me none! I think if your muscles are unbalanced on the same joint it is a big issue, but left vs. right is maybe not as bad?
I am apparently getting bigger (weighed 339 at the doctor today which is a wee bit high for my height)
I am getting stronger
2nd great bench workout of the week, I was going for 405 for a paused double on my last set so I lowered the work sets in front of it by 20 lbs each, then magic happened (for me anyway).
Bench- w/ups- 325x5, 365x3, 405 x5!!! easily had 2-3 left in the tank, none of the 405 were paused but they weren’t sloppy either.
BBell Rows- 225x7, 245x5, 265x4
OHP- barx8, 95x8, 145x5, 175x3 stopped there because I suddenly got realllllllly tired.
TY, I’m so damn heavy now it’s like doing a push-up with a fat 8 year old on my back.
Gorilla,
I can try, but first you have to get really fat and throw in the towel on life.
Cormhona,
It is a sound idea but I seem to be getting shorter (and fatter) each year, eventually I will collapse under my own gravitational force and possibly end the world.
first off, 8:30 AM Saturday squats suck ass, the only thing worse is the 9:15 deadlifts that follow.
Squats-Today
I made a camera phone video of myself squatting, I will refer to it from now on as “The One Off” simply because on the 2nd rep of my last set one of my testicles simply…poof…vanished. I doubt I have a recent picture of it to put on a milk carton so I am just hoping it turns up eventually, I’ll check the lost and found Monday. This is the price you pay for switching things up.
Squat- 225x5, 315x2, 385x2, 455x1, 505x2 (oops, something bad happened when my weight shifted forward on rep #2 decided I was done squatting today)
Deads- 225x3, 315x2, 445x1 (this is not helping my pain limit)
KB Swings- 80 x15x15
I had been taking a slow, cautious approach, sticking to singles and simple 10 lb weight jumps on my final sets, I will be returning to that on Tuesday.
Forgot to mention my gym now has Atlas Stones, they are just sitting in a corner of the weight room at the moment but I have been told that they will be put in with the prowlers, tires, sleds etc. to make us all a bit more manly.
