I am not saying the Demcrats are any better only that McCain is not the Great White Hope.
The problem is, no one here is fucking saying that, so your point is pretty much moot o_O

Try again.

Are you trying to make fun of his grammer, when he copied and pasted a quote?

Yeah, but few here are lauding Obama either like people on theese boards keep implying.

There. Fixed that for ya.
You successfully took “Choice” and “Liberty” out of the conversation
But if selfishness is the ultimate moral value, why not go all the way and force people to serve your interests wherever you can get away with it?

more like correcting the intentional misrepresentation of what she is saying, which becomes only slightly better when he copy and pasted it without listening to the very short piece himself?

Bzzt. Wrong.
I listened to it and heard it quite well. The quote is accurate.

We could argue whether she said “work” or “worry”, but you could clearly hear the “about”, especially after the second “worry”.
Let me ask you this. Do you think the words change the meaning of what’s being said?
If Obama gets elected, will I stop worrying about paying my mortgage or putting gas in my car because someone is going to take care of me?

of course the words change the meaning.
The first interpretation would mean that she expects to get it for free and the second one implies that she expects her life to be a little bit easier if she votes for her candidate.
Now my question:
Do you think anybody would have bothered to distort her message if the words did not matter? Why not just post them as they were?
What? You expect people to argue things on their merits instead of on their distortion?
That would be too… rational.

So, what’s wrong with asking another man to live for yours?
And I thought you guys welcomed the term “selfishness” as a good thing. So what’s so bad about Obama using the term in your eyes?
What, in your view, is selfishness?
Selfishness is the philosophy of a two year old. Selfish is the asshole who always takes more hits than everyone else when you pass him the bowl.
Wrong. Hitler refused to acknowledge that we are comprised of many races and have to inhabit the same planet with each other. He was an egomaniac who wanted the Aryan race to dominate, and he wanted to be the leader. That’s not selfless at all.

Hitler is a prime example of unselfishness: he demanded that others live/die for the benefit of the Aryan Race. He required victims.

Shelfishness is being stingy when it comes to shelf space, my gf exhibits this behavior in my bathroom, bitch.

Theres no such thing as selfishness. Anyone who tries to say that they or anyone else is being selfless is screening themselves. You don’t fucking care about anyone else more then yourself.
That’s the way it is. You only help others in order to make you feel better about you. You only help yourself in order to further what you want at the moment.
Those concepts are bullshit. People are all for themselves. And thank god for that, or nothing would be accomplished.

This is a silly pop psychology argument. Sooner or later in any discussion about selfishness and altruism, some dumbass thinks they are being insightful by making this argument.
There are people who tend to act with regard for others and there are people who do not. If you classify all actions as self interested, you strip self interest of its meaning. To say that all actions are self interested is a empty tautology.
I could present you with any seemingly selfless act and you would classify them as self interested – even the example of a man giving up his life for another. Your claim cannot be falsified by any observation of human behavior, which renders it not even wrong.
Even headhunter does not subscribe to your view.

A good definition is tricky. Selfishness is a general outlook where self interest takes excessive prioritization over regard for others.
I disagree with those who believe accumulation of wealth is inherently selfish. I do think that overconsumption, especially of the more scarce resources, generally is selfish.
So, don’t accumulate wealth? Sounds like a recipe for the rich to be poor, and the poor even poorer.
