I also deadlifted 235lbs yesterday and I never deadlift but I’m pretty sure that’s a PR. I do believe I’m getting stronger! Hips are preventing me from squatting heavy but it seems to be okay.

Generally speaking I wasn’t getting close to those numbers very often though. Had a few blah competitions in the spring, basically spent the summer working a lot, working out about 1x a week and getting skinny. Started getting my shit together again in August, and since then:
135/166 in competition for a 301 total (probably good for 170ish that day though, stupid mistake on my part)
couple of narrow misses at a 137.5 snatch the other day
175 clean and jerk yesterday
over the last two weeks, front squatted 165x3, 175x2 and 185x1, and back squatted 185x3, 195x2 and 210x1

Aight. Did you do the 185 before or after the 175 CJ? I bet you could hit more on a good day, depends on how often you max out and what you can regularly hit. I was able to hit 170 often with a 1RM of 180 that I hit once :P.

This other dude is uber strong on his squat and can hit high % all of the time.

im said training partner. Koing, the reason jointys ft sq is low compared to his clean is that hes able to keep close to perfect position, ie, no back rounding, doesn’t tip over at all, hips are always right under the bar on the clean etc…

a huge ft squat means very little if the position is terrible.

Agreed a huge FS means jack sh!t if the person has bad form but Jonty has good form. But one might say he has a weak front squat being only able to FS 185, but his % ratio is probably one of the best on here if not the best C&J to FS. But anyway that doesn’t mean anything either. It’s whoever puts the most weight over head in comp and gets 2 out of 3 white lights :smiley:

It was after, although all I did that day was max clean and jerk followed by max front squats. I always do squats (front or back) after the classics. Kind of goes with my thinking that the squats are accessory lifts and should therefore come second.

I squat at the start and at the end. Lift inbetween.

I’m of the thought, once you have reasonable and consistent technique you need to work really hard on the FS until least 230-250kg whilst continuing to lift heavy. You can definitely get to Worlds with that imo.
