Yay, it's Black History Month!

I love this time of year when we celebrate the history of our blackness.

It brings back memories of post Christmas season when we’ve broken in all the toys we stole from the white folk in the next projects over. We would sit in the living room curled up next to the bright, warm burning tire around the 55 gallon drum, sipping our grape drinks.

We would pass the KFC bucket hoping to be chosen by Papa to be the annual “Mutha-fucka who git to lick da bucket” when all the bones were gone.

Then we’d break into song, of course singing the songs closest to our hearts:

Haha! I love Gil Scott Heron! I’ve got a bunch of his stuff in my iTunes library. Do today’s rappers even know who he is?

This thread made my day…

The fact that they identify themselves as rappers as opposed to hip hop artists should be a clue.

The only things I know about black American history came from Kunta Kinte and Mandingo.

Long Beach Tells Teens To Pick Up Saggy Pants

Call for ‘respect’ during Black History Month

LONG BEACH (CBS) â?? City leaders want young people in Long Beach to do two things this February: pick â??em up and keep â??em up.

Bishop William Ervin along with Carson City Councilman Mike Gipson are calling on black children and teens to â??pull up their pants on their waistâ?? as a sign of respect during Black History Month.

KNX 1070â?²s Ron Kilgore reports their message to young men who wear their pants down around their knees is simple: â??You can have the swag without the sagâ??.

Community leaders say the plan is not just for cultural purposes, but may have legal benefits as well: sagging pants are often used for profiling purposes by law enforcement agencies.

But the white kids who dress like that were okay to continue wearing pants low.

HA!!

Also this: “You can have the swag without the sag” is just sad. Once you get over the age of 35, stop trying to come up with cool hip sayings to reach the young people. It’s no different than “Just say NO”…irritating.

I find the fact that this is even an issue hilarious. Apparently it is an epidemic now. Clothing stylists are obviously idiots for not cashing in on this somehow.

Maybe underwear the same color and style as your pants so you can walk around with your pants at your ankles and no one would ever know.
