I love this time of year when we celebrate the history of our blackness.

It brings back memories of post Christmas season when we’ve broken in all the toys we stole from the white folk in the next projects over. We would sit in the living room curled up next to the bright, warm burning tire around the 55 gallon drum, sipping our grape drinks.

We would pass the KFC bucket hoping to be chosen by Papa to be the annual “Mutha-fucka who git to lick da bucket” when all the bones were gone.

Then we’d break into song, of course singing the songs closest to our hearts:

  • stopped referring to random black people on the street as solar collectors
  • shaken hands with a black person at the gym, yesterday (after taking his dumbbell)
  • smacked a black gal’s ass, too, after spotting her at benching
  • made a shitload of cornbread

I think I deserve some extra kudos for this, since I’m non US.
