When you “pull” the weight down - You should naturally start tucking your elbows in more, also the bar will have a slightly lower path as well.
Edit: Really squezze the bar. Death Grip that Bastard for all your worth.

Got it, thanks man, Im also trying to make sure that the bar is resting on the bottom of the palm rather than on the top of my palm so I can drive through my forearms so to speak.
Nice Vids Matty!
Great advice, Matty. Hell, now I have to re-evaluate my bench come Sunday
Very cool to have the experience there with you…not to mention the advice from on here.
yeah, nice vids. that bar was cool. kinda like a trap bar for benching
my triceps were getting sore just watching you do that.
gym looks great. love the chilled dog hanging out there, too.
Hey buddy, nice pressing.
Looks like you have a wealth of information readily available to help you surpass your goals.
Amazing all the advice you’re getting Matty, it makes my head spin. Never saw parallel grip bench before. It’s mind-boggling how much stronger you’re going to get.
I agree with resting the bar low in the hand. That’s what I started doing some months back. I try to get the bar as close to the wrist as possible. That way, I don’t have problems with the hand flopping around during the lift - I have really weak wrists.
A dog in the gym? How cool is that?
you’re getting lots of good advice so far but I’ll second the fact that it looks like you lose your tightness on that 315.
Watch those vids (if you havent already) and try out those techniques. If you stay tighter you and dial in your technique you’ll be golden.
my 2 cents: you are taking a soft hand off, and are not setting the weight into you lats to engage them. when you take the hand off think of flairing your lats like in a lat spread bb pose. meanwhile also dig your traps into the bench. this will help you build up the tension you need when lowering the bar.
nice that you are getting the coaching you deserve.
nice work.
and who doesn’t like free- ???
DJS - Thanks sir
Strick - Yeah I here that, even though my bench still leaves alot to be desired I compared my old bench vids to this recent one, and the difference is vast.
Alexus - Yes maam that bar was IMO a very cool way to bench it forced me to try to keep my elbows more tucked, well at least a little. The dog “Baretta” is one of the most laid back dogs you will meet, shes a total sweetheart and on top of that she is a pretty feared breed Cane Corso.
Cavalier - Positioning the bar is very important I try to remember to shoot through the wrists, just like you would drive through your heels with deads.
Greg - I actually watched the hole series early this morning (at work) and Tate plain and simple is a great teacher, I wish I could go to that FTS seminar they are having. Only problem is there is sooo much to remember its gonna take a lot of practice to wherein its muscle memory instead of attempting to memorize, but I am up for it.
Pete - Thanks man, I see exactly what you mean, I realize my tightness fails throughout, Its a great cue to remember (i.e. lat spread) and will be one of the cues I think about especially on the handoff.
Kev - I appreciate the teaching and advice believe me!

yeah totally.
I’ve just been practicing my set up all the time… there definitely is WAY more to the bench press than I thought lol. You’ve got time though… you’ll get it dialed in and then crush some weight.
Yup yup, Im gonna really vid my benching often just for forms sake, as of right now Im not gonna max out, I wanna get the form as good as I can, which will hopefully translate to my goal of 365 in December…
Dear God, a 235# GM. You are a freak.
Such great advice in here. That’s what I really like about all of these logs. There’s a lot to remember on all of the lifts. What I do is pick one cue at a time and really hammer that one home. For squeezing the bar, Dave Tate mentioned putting a band between your wrists which gives you no option but to really grab the bar tightly.
Keep up the great work.
james
Today I tried “pulling” the bar toward me on bench, that is, trying to pull hands apart and tensing lats. It did seem to help, bar felt much more in control than usual.
James - Thanks man, you actually read my mind, I told myself exactly try to get 1 or 2 cues down instead of all of em, because if I try to do that Im surely fucked. Next week will be the pulling apart the bar and flaring of the lats we will see…
Cav - Thanks man, I may wrap a monster mini around my wrists so I get the feel of pulling apart the bar.
woot, tearin it up!!
Great work.
Don’t remember if you normally use Tate presses or not. What do you think of them?
Great idea on phasing in the cues. Sometimes there are so many of them that you can forget there is a several hundred pound load about to be introduced into the equation.
