YAHTZEE!

Just went back and caught up on your thread. Competition, Yes! Always gives the training a boost.

Thanks guys!

Yeah actually just got in contact with the one of the guys for the APA, after reading the rules 25 times last night just wanted to get everything in order. Its a done deal, Im pretty pyched and Harry you are right now with an absolute goal to shoot for, its changing the way I view things. I wish I can take all you guys with me lol!

We’ll be there in spirit Matty.

What are your goals for this meet. None of this I want to get my feet wet bullshit either. LOL. Serious though what are you trying to shhot for?

Word of advice set you first attempt @ 90% of your 1rm to get on the boards then go from there.

give’em Hell Matty!

Id Like to get a 500 DL, 365 Bench and Squat I dunno at this point…hopefully these numbers will change as the meet draws closer…scratch that they will change for the better as the meet draws closer.

Thanks Dday

Just get your technique right and you’ll be smokin’ at the meet.

A bit puzzled by your description “Nautilus OH Press - 3 PPS”. The nautilus machines use a weight stack instead of plate loading. Is this a hammer machine or a very, very old Nautilus?

Do it, man. Make my predictions look like an insult. Post 'em up so you can look at them, shake your fist and say “Fuck you, you Canadian seal humping bastard!”

Im not sure if its new but it is plate loaded and the name of the the side says Nautilus, Its similar to the HS OH Press but its not leaning back the way the HS seat is, it is more upright. The Nautilus also has different grips, I use the neutral grip it seems easier on the shoulders and since all my other shoulder pressing movements are pronated grip its a nice little twist.

Im happy you mentioned technique because that IMO is my main issue, I am gonna hammer away at my technique in all 3 lifts over the next few months and I hope this will make my numbers rise.

Thanks bro, what a great feeling it would be to squat 4 plates!

No shit. It seemed such a long way off but now I think we are both getting closer. I’ll bet money you get there first.
Don’t forget about the gain from a tight-as-fuck knee wrap.

Yeah I have to get some wraps, I tend to only use sleeves, and they are allowed in this fed, so I am gonna get on that. I get paid in a few days…FTS THERAPY!

pretty good goals for the meet my man. I’m sure you’ll smash past those. 500 DL and 365 bench? I’m jelly.

as far as bench technique goes you should definitely check out this serious of videos on youtube. I watched them all the other day and plan on working on them as I get closer. I dont nearly have as much time as you do so who knows what will happen but I bet you can get them down pat and your bench numbers will skyrocket!

its a 6 part video series. Really good IMO.

If you do get wraps PRACTICE with them. I threw on a pair tonight for SNG’s and they’re tough to get used to but certainly do help.

This is perfect, thanks bro the one issue I am having is these awful J-hooks at both my gyms where I am forced to press right away to get the bar out, Im thinking of 2 bench days one day for form practice the other for effort.

Most definitley, Im hoping someone will help wrap my knees at the meet.

PEAKS AND VALLEYS PEOPLE:

Training in Jersey, did some benching and Deads, Really concentrating on form as my bench as it needs alot of work. Long story short, I have issues with external rotation, weak lats and and weak tris, I was really surprised at the tris as I thought they were a strong point. So in turn we used a multi grip bar to do some closegrip benches and then on the last set really close grip deads, they hit my tris in a way I have never hit them before.

I am also super shoulder dominant which is prohibiting a stronger press.

I also worked on Sumo DLs for the second time in my life, I found it very odd, but he wants me to get strong at this style and feels it will translate to a stronger conventional DL as it will hit some weak points. Overall I had a blast, and really appreciate my friends taking time out to train me for free, and as a Jew I love Free

BENCH PRESS 135/10 185/10 225/5 275/3 295/3 315/1(BARELY)

Matty, how did they assess and determine your weak areas?

Through tons of flexibility drills as well postural observations (shoulders slightly forward etc) I also performed exercises with moderate weight wherein they could see where my power was coming from and overcompensating for different areas. In this instance with the bench, my shoulders (medial delt is overcompensating for weak lats and tris, which is according to him why my bench numbers arent where they should be, that and technique as well. He explains that if I strengthen my lats and focus less on pushing with my shoulders and more with the aforementioned lats and tris my numbers should go up.

Your shoulders are also very tight as well. You could not get your elbows to your side on the NG presses.

On the bench PULL the weight to your chest -don’t just lower it- you lose your tightness and your elbows flare out on the way down. No power then is reversed on the way up–make sense? Really pull the bar apart on the press up.

Hope this helps Matty.

What kind of routine are you guys going to do?

Yeah they fucking are, I didnt put in the log but did a boat load of scarecrows and face pulls with bands to help loosen up the area, its a real chore to get my elbows close to my sides, I guess all the years of a flared bench will do that to you.

We have talked about westside, and since I will have the equipment needed for it I may give it a go.

I will remember those cues, I will say I am bit confused about the pulling the weight down to my chest,

I really appreciate the help and advice thanks a ton!
