You should be fine squatting daily. I think the key is to not go to failure ever though. Thibs has the same in the HP Mass program only he also includes the sled or prowler in that category. What are you hoping to get out of the squatting daily?
For me, I always listened to the adage, that in the gym you cant just do what you like to do…if I did just what I liked I would press and row everyday. Honestly Im not a fan of the squat I dont like it, mainly because im not very good at it. I figure if I could improve my lowerbody strength and hammer away at what I feel may be some imbalances down there with squat variations, it will make me stronger overall and translate essentially to the back squat and DL.
Matty, I’m really pleased you’r eliking the new job. If the head space is clear, everything else somehow just seems to work. I’m really glad. Really, really.
As usual I’m impressed by your lifts. A three wheel squat is actually pretty freaking solid. Squats are one of those fickle lifts that seem to come and go at random… unless you do them ALL THE TIME, like twice or mroe a week.
Maybe that’s what you should do. Squat two days a week! I’ve alwasy maintained, you should do what you hate because it’s probably what you most need.
True speak Kent! This squatting everyday session will not be forever, actually for three more weeks, and then Ill drop it to twice a week, maybe a front and back squat day.
i don’t like squats either. i used to squat every day. not heavy (for me), but lots of reps. to try and grease the groove on the movement so it felt a bit smoother. i think it did help a bit. used to do front squats and overhead. i kind of almost nearly like dumbbell squats. maybe just because the dumbbell was a bit lighter, though. maybe you will learn to like 'em?
Hmmm . . . my Sheiko routine has me squatting twice a week, however, there’s so much squatting, may as well be 3 times. Then again, I’m doing one of the basic routines, didn’t check to see if the others do 3 times.

grease the groove?
I dunno alex, I dont think Ill ever enjoy squatting, I will always simply consider them a necessary evil.
hmm… maybe ‘grease the groove’ isn’t the right term. i used to have problems with squats because they upset my hips. had a bit of crunchiness in them as they weren’t used to the range of motion. fairly high frequency… got the joint fluid flowing around the joint or something so the movement became comfortable. i also have trouble with getting good muscular recruitment for the movement. maintaining lumbar arch etc. i think the frequency helped what really felt like a very unnatural movement feel a little less alien.

yeah. i feel like that mostly. sometimes i look forward to them a bit. when the movement feels smooth and the muscles seem to be working properly and i feel like a bit of a bad ass. what is most demoralizing for me about squats is that mine is still so weak. nowhere near close to bodyweight after over a year of serious training. hoping back squatting will sort me out. biggest problem with front squats is that because of my lack of ankle flexibility i’m incapable of really getting my hips in under the bar in order to drive it up properly. so… i don’t suppose there ever will be terribly much hope for a big front squat from me
Back in 19 dickity two or high school, every kid wanted to bench (shocker) and no one wanted to squat because it was hard(myself included). One day I decided to make squat my lift and mentally rewired myself to love it. I can remember squatting 2-3 times a week, granted there was no one to mentor me and they were gawd awful but I owned the squat rack. To bad after HS was over I took a 12 year break from the gym.
There is no real point to that story other than if you don’t like a lift try to make it your thing, even if at first the love it fake.
Cav - Thanks man I appreciate it, Its a constant struggle for me, mental mainly…story of my life.
Alexus - You know I take it back, I could learn to love it. case in point I hated Military Pressing and preferred DB Presses BTN presses. Now its my favorite day, I love’em.
Dday - Nah I know what you mean, I was the same as all kids as well…I was AWESOME at the nautilus press!
Austin - Thanks dude, No Dl for me this week, next week Im going for a 10lb PR (465)
Matty great job on the OH and the DL’s. I have the check ready to send just put a stamp on it and throw in the mailbox this evening. Good luck this year.
