Xjusticex2013x's 5/3/1 Training Log

August 21, 2013 - Rep Bench (W3D2)

W/U - some sledgehammer swings and jump rope work

Bench

45 x some
135x6
155x5
185x5
205x6
230x5

The goal was nine reps, but I stopped at five. It was pretty obvious that it wasn’t happening. It’s okay; I got my excuses. brb ate horribly (payload and quality wise) yesterday and endured yet another sleepless night.

Paused CGBP

185x3
(185, 50 lbs chains x 3)x5 (flat footed setup on the 1st two sets)

This was difficult.

Lat Pulldown - 6x12 (up to 230x12)

Dip - (BWx15)x3 (staggered with pulldowns)

Ran another 440 for some shitty time and did like 10 minutes of bleacher sprints before I tanked. I honestly think it’s best to save it anyway…got a big DL day coming up.

August 23, 2013 - Heavy DL (W3D3)

Sumo DL

135x8
225x5
315x3
375x3
435x3
465x2
505x1
530x1 (couldn’t budge 2nd rep)
545 x no dice (didn’t break)
(470x2)x6 (six I think?)

Felt stupid explosive on the warmup sets, but 505 felt pretty funky at the bottom. Pushed my luck and went for 530x3, but that wasn’t happening. Felt that I might as well try and set a cheap weight PR, but that was the same story. Backed down and did some volume. My legs definitely felt kind of deconditioned to heavy sumo pulling, but I think I know how to remedy that. 6x2 got me really strong when I was using straps, so hopefully it will have a similar effect sans straps. I’m going to do said rep scheme after the main work on my rep and heavy days.

Afterwards, I worked up to a 420 lb single plus 100 lbs of chains on conventional pulls from a deficit. Failed the first attempt, got the second one. I think the chains may have been off center by the time I attempted the single, so the amount of resistance that they actually imparted on the bar may have been somewhat skewed.

Three circuits of:

BW Back Raises
BW Reverse Hypers
Seated Leg Curls

Machine Row - 2 sets

Not quite how I imagined this session to go, but I still managed to end it on a high note.

August 24, 2013 - “Bodybuilding” Day (W3D4)

Seated DB Press

35’s x 15
60’s x 10

Wasn’t feeling it.

BTN Push Press

45 x some
(135x8)x4

Staggered six sets of eight pullups with this stuff.

Did some bullshit w/ weighted dips and 30 minutes of cardio. Felt physiologically awful throughout…might as well have stayed home lol…

August 26, 2013 - Heavy Squat (W4D1)

Squat

45 x some
135x5
225x5
275x3
300x3
325x1
340x1
350x2 (missed 3rd rep)
(285x2)x4 (paused)
(305x2)x2 (paused)

…well shit. Pretty disappointing by this…really wanted that triple. I can’t keep on missing weights like this if I want to get anywhere.

Played with some low bar squats and barbell rows.

August 28, 2013 - Speed Bench (W4D2)

Speed Bench

45 x some
(135x3)x2
(155x3)x8 (added chains after 2nd set)

Incline Bench

45 x some
135x6
155x6
175x4
(190x4)x6
(165x8)x2

Lat Pulldown - 12x12 (staggered w/ incline benching)

Overhead DB Extension —SS— Face Pull - (55x12)x3 — (stack x 15)x3

August 30, 2013 - Rep Deadlift (W4D3)

Sumo DL

135x6
225x5
315x5
(375x3)x2
405x12
(435x2)x2
455x2
(475x2)x6

The 405 set was no problem. Just a lot of reps. The doubles were a bit slow off the floor due to the prior work, but they were still fairly strong considering everything.

Snatch Grip Deadlift

315x6
355x6
(375x6)x2
(395x4)x4
350x6

GHR

BW x some
BW bands x 15,15,12
BW x 15

Some BW reverse hypers

15 HLRs —SS— 15 Standing Cable Abs - 3 rounds

August 31, 2013 - BBing Day (W4D4)

Press

45 x some
95x8
120x6
(140x3)x5
(105x10)x3 (staggered w/ (BWx12)x3 chins)

Definitely stronger seated lol. Not horrible though.

One-armed cable lateral raise - 4x20 (no rest between sets or arms)

Cable Crossover - 4 sets

Incline DB Curl - 4 sets

Rolling Tricep Extension (from floor) - 4 sets

30 minutes of cardio

September 2, 2013 - Rep Squat (W5D1)

Squat

45 x some
135x5
225x5
255x5
280x5
(305x5)x5

Front Squat

115x5
135x5
175x5
205x3
225x3
(245x3)x3

DB Row - (120x15)x3

Lying Leg Curl - 5 sets

Ab Wheel Rollout - 2 sets

I’m sure you know what you are doing, but when I read some basics over the cube method isn’t the “rep” day working up to a set of 8?

It can if you want it to be. I’ve done something like that before, but at it’s core, cube is really vague and leaves a lot up to individual customization and interpretation.

September 4, 2013 - Heavy Bench (W5D2)

Bench

45 x some
135x6
155x5
(185x2)x4
200x1
215x1
230x1
245x1
260x3 (PR)
(230x2)x5 (paused)
(245x2)x3 (paused)

Bar tilted a bit on the final rep of 260 and on one of the reps on one of sets w/ 245. Not a big deal though. First real bench PR in a year.

Dip

BWx10
BW 45x10
BW 65x8
BW 80x7
BW 55x9

Staggered with pec dec rear delts.

100 burpees

September 5, 2013

Ran up to the campus gym after class. Shoulder was feeling a little off, so I did some stuff to loosen it up.

Did three circuits of band traction, cuban presses, and shoulder dislocations. Lots of reps on each.

(20x20)x4 Lateral Raise

3 sets of cable crossovers

Nice work man. My squat and bench are a tad above yours, but your deadlift rapes mine

Thanks. That’s just because of my orangutan arms.

I started pulling sumo again because I <3 you

Go to “Logs” on the top of the page and click “Training Logs” in the drop-down box. Then click “New” towards to top of the page to create a new one.

September 7, 2013 - BBing Day (W5D4)

Press

(45 x some)x2
95x6
(120x4)x2
(140x3)x6

Pulldowns w/ each set.

Arm work and 20 minutes of running on the treadmill.

Nearing the summit.
