Also a must download is Braid. As you know by now I am a big fan of that game.

I tried the demo last night, but it didn’t seem all that great. I’ve heard tons of rave reviews about it, but while I was playing all I could think was “This is it?” What am I missing?

Well i guess we messed up by not telling everyone its a Platform game on the level of Supermario Just waaay more intellectual. Did you get ALL the puzzle pieces in the Demo? That is where the real meat of the game is until you see the end sequence.

If you did get them you are a better man than me sir, because I sure as hell didn’t the first time around.

Nope, I didn’t get them all because I got bored way before.

Maybe I’ll try again. It wasn’t clear that assembling the puzzle was the goal.

Yeah the puzzle pieces is what the game is about. I bet you cant get them all without some type of tip.

I couldn’t. There was one puzzle piece that I almost got by pure accident. Hard to explain.

Stick with it though, I think it’s totally worth it.

Tried again last night. I’m still missing 5 pieces for the demo puzzle.

Graphics are nice; music is great. But I still get bored. What’s the point if the puzzles are so hard that I can’t figure them out myself? I’ve read everything, went everywhere, tried everything I could think of and some puzzle pieces are either too far to jump to, or too high. I’m sure there’s a way; probably by getting one of the monsters to a certain spot and then bouncing off its head, but I haven’t been able to figure it out. Dicked around with the “rewind time” function at a bunch of places, etc.

That I need to get on gamefaqs to figure out a puzzle is not the mark of a great game. A game, IMHO, should not require external “tips” to be solved by 99% of the population. Maybe it can have a few extra-hard puzzles (like getting those last few stars of the 120 in Super Mario 64), but close to half the pieces in the first puzzle? Shit, give me a break.

There should be enough hints (and hopefully they’d get less and less subtle as time goes on) for a player to figure it out by himself. As it is, I got all the easy pieces in maybe 10 minutes and spent the rest of maybe an hour trying to figure out how to get the rest. I can’t say I was having fun.

N+ and Castle Crashers are fun; a lot more fun as far as I’m concerned…

Regarding fans - I assuming replacing them with quieter ones would void the return warranty?

Yes. Opening the casing for any reason whatsoever will void the warranty.

I usually wait until the warranty expires before tinkering with my toys. I’m still using my old Xbox 1 (modified with Xbox Media Center) to stream most of my movies anyway, and that one has had it’s fan replaced with an extra silent one.

XBMC also has a function where it monitors the CPU temp and slows down the fan if the CPU isn’t running hot. It’s nearly inaudible. Too bad it’s not powerful enough to stream HD content.

Yea dude that first Xbox with a mod chip was something else. SNES games, PS1 games, movies, but it struggles with most of my HD files. I thought that fan adjuster was a very great edition.

I’d like to use my 360 to stream just because, but most of the damn codes aren’t even supported. Guess I’ll have to give TVersity a try.

Oh and anyone looking for replacement fans should check out Talismoon Whisper Fans. I found them to be quieter than the original fans and there’s a cool blue light coming out of the back of my console.

Oh, and how much actual space does the 60gb have? Because I’m thinking about just doing the 120gb mod, it would be cheaper.

finished GOW 2 the other day excellent game, probably my favourite so far. Purchased MK vs DC, kinda wishing I hired it as I’ve pretty much clocked it(damn, i need too get xbox live)

It’s really freaking frustrating at times, for sure - but should make you feel like a genius when you DO figure out those tough pieces.

I don’t want to keep hyping it up, because I agree that N+ is a more FUN game, but if you’ve paid attention to Braid’s story, it will all make sense as to why you’re going through all of the annoying shit now.

I felt just like you at first. I thought I must have been doing something wrong or just plain stupid because everyone was getting the puzzle pieces and I wasn’t. What I finally did was swallow my pride and look on Gamefaq.com After reading the hints I finally “got” how the game was meant to be played and it was much easier to go with the flow after that. Honestly the game is a tricky bastard at times but you will “get” it.

I Been playing the new Prince of Persia… Interesting graphics and duel/combat system. The game could use more combat and less running and jumping around (although most prince of persia games are just that)…

Btw has anyone accomplished the 14 hit combo? I could only get to 7.

But for the xbox the combo goes like this : XXXYXYAYXYBAXY according to some websites.

I’m glad to see the the X360 and the PS3 (and maybe even the Wii, I don’t know…) are slowly working towards being functionally equivalent to XBMC. If the old Xbox could handle HD, it would be the king of the media centers.

TVersity is what I’m using now. I still have content that won’t play because of codec issues, and it’s really weird since it plays on the PC and TVersity is supposed to transcode for the 360. I haven’t had time to look into the problem yet. Another thing I need to fix is the video size of the transcoding. I get HD video in a 400x240 box or something, which pretty much destroys any HD advantage…

Saw those mentioned multiple times. For now, since I’m mostly using my 360 for gaming, the fan noise is not really an issue. If the 360 ever become my main media hub, I’ll check them out. I know that changing the fan in my old Xbox made a major difference.

Good question. My HDD is pretty full. I’ve got 4-5 games copied to the disk and a bunch of trial demos. I’ll see if I can add up the various sizes given in the “memory” panel of the dashboard and “guesstimate” the total avaible size of an empty disk.

Although I suspect the correct advice will be “Go with the largest HDD you can find.”

Going through annoying shit is what I generally call “work”.

If there’s annoying shit in my games, I like to be able to shoot it in the face or chainsaw its limbs off. Explosives are also acceptable.

Not all games can appeal to all people… I never could get into the Final Fantasy series, for example, and I know people who look at me like I’m retarded when I use “Final Fantasy” and “boring” in the same sentence.

between vegas 1 and 2 I actually like the first one more so I’d go for that

could be because more of my friends have that than the 2nd one though

anyone got MK vs DC?

Yeah, it’s a good game you should give it a shot. Rent it first if you must, I’m not a fan of many fighting games but I bought this one.

Hey thanks for the thread guys, it’s a big help for the Christmas shopping! (Although that was not your intention.)

I just got Fallout 3, I’m pretty excited. It looks like Oblivion on squats and milk.

purchased last thursday, I’d say hire the game… I was a massive fan of all the games excluding 4 and the last one(never really got a chance too play it)…it’s alright will be a game i play with mates

Has anyone here played Dark Sector? It was one of the included games when I got my 360 and I hadn’t played it much because at first it seemed like just another shooter, but I gave it a go last weekend and the game is a blast.

If you push through the intro chapter, you get a “glaive” which is basically a three-bladed boomerang you can throw around and it comes back to you. The fun begins once you get the power to guide the glaive in slo-mo after throwing it. Soon after the limbs and heads are flying amidst showers of blood. Great fun.

I had never even heard of that game before; but if you enjoy single-player gory fun (it supports multiplayer, but the slo-mo glaive guiding is absent), give it a try.
