So… Banjo-Kazooie is released on Live Arcade tomorrow. I always thought that game was underrated. Along with Diddy Kong Racing, fo sho.

Anyone else looking forward to the DLC for Fable in 1.5 weeks?
FYI, I saw that they were having a sale on the Legendary pack for Halo 3 this week.
What stuff for Fable 2 is coming?

Which one would you recommend if you could only buy one?
I’ve been thinking about upgrading my 360 hard drive too. I played Dead Space off the HDD and all I could hear was my TV, sounds like it cut down on the fan some too. That is a very welcome addition.
There’s nothing coming out over the holidays or in the next 2 or 3 months that I really want so now I’ll have some time to enjoy some of the games I’ve bought.
Oh, and for those of you who’ve bought Live arcade games which do you recommend? Since I never beat it I was thinking of buying the Xbox Original San Andreas.

That sucks man, how old is it?
Here is the how to:
I’d say its nearing a year old, got it last Christmas.
I brought it over my friends house last weekend, are they not supposed to be transported or something? We had no trouble with it at the time…
My Elite died at the 11-12 month time frame too. Died pretty much the same way yours did. It seems to be much more a “When?” the “If?” problem with the 360s. I transported my xbox all the time in pelican case without a problem then one day it just died.
Let folks say what they may about Best Buy, but their replacement plan rocks. I walked in with dead Xbox and walked out with a brand new one. Plus, with the price drops for 360s it only cost me $11 for a new replacemnet plan.
When more than If…that is for sure. What I don’t understand is those people that have had 4-5 360’s break on them and they sink more money into the 360…I know people have sunk a lot into games but geez.

Well the specific problem (the “3 Red Rings of Death”) is covered for 3 years free of charge by Microsoft. So most people who’ve gone through multiple 360s have only paid for the 1st one.
Note that once you’ve got a sizeable game library, it really sucks to find yourself with nothing to play it on.
Add to that that some informal polls done one many gaming forum seem to indicate that the latest “Falcon” revision models have a much lower problem incidence and that the brand new “Jasper” model (with 65nm GPU and 150W power supply) are now starting to appear in stores… 2009 might finally be the year the X360s stop dying.
Anyway…
I finally gave in and bought one myself last week. There was a deal for the 60GB Pro model with 5 included games (and not crappy filler games either) for 299$. That was just too good to pass up.
My timing’s pretty good too, since my personal pet peeve about the 360 - how loud it is - has been resolved with the new dashboard. I can copy the games to the hard disk and play them without hearing the DVD drive. The fans aren’t completely silent, but I can’t hear them over the sound of the game.
I’ve been having great fun with Gears of War (the first one), Crackdown (who new that jumping around buildings could be so addictive?) and PGR4 (with Quebec City included! Yay!). Yeah, old stuff, but it’s new if you haven’t played it ![]()
Maybe this weekend I’ll get on Live and see how many times I can managed to get called a “stupid french gay nigger faggot bitch”…

True.
My problem was one of the “other” problems that they haven’t deemed worthy of extending the warranty for. No video but sound was working. Same weekend my friends 360 did the exact same thing and online there is not a small amount of people that have had it happen either.
I was talking to a guy who works at Gamestop who said his manager just buys new elite systems (4-5 at this point) when the old ones break, rather than send the broken one in. That shit just boggled my mind…you can’t do without video games for 2 weeks that he’d buy brand new systems to sink an extra 1200-1500 into it?

Even if you go this route, you can just get an Arcade version (they all have the HDMI port now) for 199$ and transfer you HDD to it. Unless you really really insist on having the black casing. Once you’ve go two of them you should be able to send the broken one for repair and use the other until the 1st comes back.
I’ve been checking my 360 after many hours of gaming and it doesn’t get particularly hot… My plasma TV gives out a lot more heat than the 360 does. I believe mine is a Falcon-3 board. All the games I play are copied to the HDD first, so maybe that helps. I’l have to check with Crackdown, since that one doesn’t support HDD install.
According to this informal poll: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13169510 (since MS doesn’t release numbers of their failures rates) the Falcon versions seem to be faring much better than the previous ones did.
My Elite has been running without problems for 6 months now - ok well, it has frozen twice on me. I bought an addon fan which clips onto the back (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000R9BIZA ) but I’ll probably only use it in on the summer as it’s loud as fuck - seriously.
When did the Falcons first come out?

I think they started to appear around Sep 2007… the common method to check if you’ve got one is to look at your power brick. If it’s 175w, it’s a Falcon.
For people who are thinking of buying one but haven’t done so yet, look for those with a 150W power supply. Those will be the newer Jaspers.
As for adding fans to that thing: NEVER! Blasphemy. If anything, I’d like to remove the current fan (maybe replace it with a peltier device or some such). MS trying to pass of the X360 as some kind of media center is ridiculous with the noise these things make. For games, no problem.
Most games are loud. For movies? Not a chance. Nothing like ruining a nice, quiet nature scene or some suspenseful horror movie moment with the noise from a cheap fan.
I’m with Steve Jobs on this one: Fans suck.

The downloadable games really depends on what your in to. For the causual gamer or nostalgic gamer I would recommend, Street Fighter II HD, Rez HD and Alien Hominid (very difficult but fun as hell to play).
Also a must download is Braid. As you know by now I am a big fan of that game.

I tried the demo last night, but it didn’t seem all that great. I’ve heard tons of rave reviews about it, but while I was playing all I could think was “This is it?” What am I missing?

I agree - those games aren’t my thing.
Regarding fans - I assuming replacing them with quieter ones would void the return warranty?
RSGZ wrote:

Yes. Opening the casing for any reason whatsoever will void the warranty.
I usually wait until the warranty expires before tinkering with my toys. I’m still using my old Xbox 1 (modified with Xbox Media Center) to stream most of my movies anyway, and that one has had it’s fan replaced with an extra silent one. XBMC also has a function where it monitors the CPU temp and slows down the fan if the CPU isn’t running hot. It’s nearly inaudible. Too bad it’s not powerful enough to stream HD content.
Bad Red Ring story. I got mine about a month after they came out, Novemberish 05. Never had any problems with it. Bought Gears 2, stuck it in. Red Ring. Like it waited 3 years to the day, when I had a game I’ve been waiting for since the first time I played the first one, and kicked me square in the cock.
BILL GATES WILL DIE A PEASANTS DEATH!!!

That’s actually a new Locust weapon in the game: The Xbox nullifier.

Funnily enough when I first called Xbox about my problem they told me “Oh we’ve been having a lot of people call in with the same issue for Fable 2…”
My xbox finally died a couple weeks ago, just shy of two years. I was right in the middle of watching an episode of Supernatural too. Luckily I have some relatives staying at my house so I’m just using their xbox until mine comes back.
