WSM 2013

So as you all should know World’s is currently underway.

I’m super excited to see a new American in the mix, none other than Kalle Beck’s friend Robert Oberst. Kalle posted a few videos of Oberst back when he used to frequent this place. I think the dude is 6’8" 400+lbs. Insane pressing strength. Congrats to him for making it through the qualifiers in his very first shot at World’s. That’s just awesome.

I was sad to see Mark Felix not make it to the finals this year, but he out deadlifted Big Z in the heats, which is pretty damn impressive in and of itself.

Happy to see Mike Jenkins is back after being injured and having to sit out the Arnold.

Terry Hollands is in the mix as well, which is amazing. I’m glad he’s back to his old self after a few years in a slump.

Can’t wait till all the footage is released.

I find it amazing how the sport has progressed in just the past few years, in terms of the size of the competitors. For instance, in 2010 the average dude seemed to be like 6’2"-6’4" and between 320-360. Now, the majority of finalists are 6’6"+ and 400+lbs.

Shaw, Thor, Jenkins, Hollands, Oberst, Z (obviously not 6’6"…but right around 400lbs)

Just insane how big these guys are. I don’t see any chance of people like Jason Bergmann even being able to compete anymore. He was a beast a few years ago. Not complaining, it’s just amazing.

unofficial scores after day #1 from

Did Misha get hurt or what? Really sucks, he was always one of my favorite. Such a chill dude, and insanely strong across multiple strength sports, and his technique is flawless.

Terry Hollands 24
Hafthor Bjørnson 22
Zydrunas 21
Mike Jenkins 20
Mike Burke 18
Vytautas Lalas 17
Robert Oberst 8
Johannes Årsjø 6
Misha Koklyaev Retired

Yea :frowning:

He’s one of my favorite lifters of all time. I really want him to win one of these days. Recently he’s been looking bigger and stronger than ever. Only man in history to perform at a world class level in oly lifting, strongman, powerlifting, and highland games. And seems like the most jovial dude ever to boot.

That’s why I always cheer for Lalas lol. He’s only 5’10" like a normal human being instead of these ogres towering at 6’8" and weighing in the mid 400lb range.

I saw Lalas in person at the Arnold this year, the man is built like a bowling ball. His static strength on things like deadlift and pressing is just beyond belief too. That’s why he did so well at the Arnold; they mostly had really heavy static movements, almost like powerlifting, just with different lifts.

Yea, Lalas is stupidly thick and wide. I think one of my favorites right now is Radzikowski, really good presser, thick, but pretty lean, also more of a normal height.

I understanded that Koklyaev hurted his triceps, i did see one picture where half of his arm is on bruises and skin from his palms has left. Radzikowski is pretty good strongman, hoped place to finals for him. Does somebody know do he train or do he get advises from Mariusz Pudzianowski?

I’d like to see Jenkins win, he’s a local legend around these parts.

Edit: Well shit I didn’t realize it was over…

Apparently Jenkins got some kind of Chinese diarrhea death flu and lost 20lbs over the 3 days prior to the contest. The fact that he still pulled away with 4th speaks volumes. I’m sure we’ll see him win again.

Ya, dude is a beast. It’s shame especially since he got hurt the year before.

I smell a conspiracy to keep Jenkins from winning. Injury, influenza… Hmm

Anyone know if or when derek poundstone will return?

Derek Poundstone never stops returning lol. It remains to be seen though whether or not he can line up one of his brief uninjured periods with a contest.
