WSM 2007 Airs Tonight

Pudz is superhuman, do doubt about it. The guy is just amazing to watch.

I would guess 75% or more are on something. I know both Pfister and Magnus have both stated numerous times they are drug free. This makes some sense if you look at their career and physique.

On another note, I am somewhat disappointed in the weights still being used at WSM.

I mean, a 275lb log for reps??? This is what I have in my upcoming amatuar show!

A 353lb finishing stone? Again, most HW AM shows are heaiver than this. Maybe I am just being picky, but it seems like you have to go through hell to earn a pro card and qualify for the big show, and then the weights decrease??

I agree 100%

hell I did two comps at under 200lbs last year and the log was 220lbs thats 80% of 275. I don’t think a crappy 200lb amateur should be using 80% of what the best in the world are!

the stones need to be a something like

320
360
380
420
440

They make the 200-352 series look like they are playing with basketballs…

LW’s do series that around 260-380

Funny thing is all the qualifiers for WSM are heavier. Fit Expo, Super Series, etc.

I’m quite cynical, but it is possible. Amazing genetics (1 in a million)eating like a horse and lifting since childhood as a farmboy could have done it for Magnus. Who knows.

Maybe its to get a speedier competetion, I know in the finals this year a few went down to the wire makes it more interesting to watch really close matches.

Is there anywhere on the internet I could watch this by the way?

I’m fine with some speed events, I think that is part of strongman. But I personally would rather see the strongest guys in the world move HEAVY shit, than see who can move “heavy” shit fast. I loved the barrell loading medly, that was kick azz. But I also want to see events where only a handfull of guys finish, not breeze through a squat set in 20 seconds (this was fucking sick btw)

Monopoly

I really enjoyed how Phister smoked Mariusz in the stones event after Pudz had already won the competition.

Yeah, but how the fuck did he only get 2 reps in the deadlift?

Not really, the IFSA guys would smoke them in the strength department. We’ll find out at Fortissimus who the strongest man in the world really is, and they will be named Savikas or Koklyev.

Yeah I was wondering where Koklyev was he is my favorite strongman right now.

Most likely still in IFSA, as they won’t let their athletes compete in WSM.

Dosen’t look like IFSA is going to play.

From ironmind earlier this month.

After some adjustments following a round of discussions with IFSA, the Fortissimus Steering Committee has released the start list for next year??s Louis Cyr World Strength Challenge. Logo courtesy of Paul Ohl.

Following is the complete statement, as given to IronMind, by the Fortissimus Steering Committee:

??From the beginning FORTISSIMUS Steering Committee had principles and guidelines concerning the concept of the competition. It had made clear that it would not get involved in strongman politics or controversies. It also stated that it would favor athletes that were free of speech and willing to compete at the highest level, no matter what the quality of the field would be nor the toughness of the events.

FORTISSIMUS further stated that it would not get into any deal that would lead to influencing the invitations, the events and the refereeing in order to better the chances of a selected few based on their affiliation.

Finally, FORTISSIMUS refused any discussions leading to tailor-making events or money issues .

Based on these facts, FORTISSIMUS has officially informed three IFSA strength athletes (Zydrunas Savickas, Vasyl Virastyuk and Michael Koklyaev), that given IFSA’s management’s attitude, they are now considered as having withdrawn from the LOUIS CYR WORLD STRENGTH CHALLENGE and therefore failed to stand to its challenge.

THE CHALLENGERS

They come from Poland, Sweden, United Kingdom, West Indies, United States of America and Canada. They combine 6 World Strongest Man titles, 15 podiums at World strength competitions and they have qualified for 30 finals at World strength competitions. They are the official challengers of FORTISSIMUS 2008 and they will battle the Decathlon of Strength on 28-29 June 2008.

Fuck. I guess we still have The Arnold.

So does IFSA hold its own competitions of the same general nature as WSM? and are athletes allowed to compete in both events? please excuse any of my naive comments

Pretty much, they are a seperate federation much like the different federations in powerlifting. They split up after the 2004 Met-Rx WSM

IFSA athletes are under contract to only compete in IFSA sanctioned contests only. Or something like that.
