I will be competing in my first meet at the end of the year. What I wanted to get for the meet was a belt, knee wraps and wrist wraps in line with IPF regulations.
In South Africa the powerlifting community is very fragmented and isolated and really only comes together at a regional or national meet. So really groups train by themselves and in my province (state) its even less in terms of interactions among competitors. We follow the IPF federation.
What I wanted to do was order from Elitefts: Metal triple blackline knee wraps 2.0 and triple blackline wrist wraps 60cm and an elitefts economy 13mm single prong belt.
As a RAW newbie would these wraps and belt be efficient to compete with and be suitable until ‘intermediate’ stages? Basically I want to pertain to the saying “Buying Nice is better than buying twice”.
Any advice, guidance or tips would be really much appreciated
The metal triple lines are really stretchy wraps. I’m sure if you crank them they will cast but they are definately not tough. Go with some EFS Heavy Wraps. I wear them, you can cast them, but a tight wrap gives you plenty of pop and support. If your going to spend the money on metals, get the All Blacks
I compete in 100% RAW, and they limit the length of wrist wraps to 24" but they are going to reduce that to 18". Can somebody give a review for some of the 18" wrist wraps that are good quality? Like Titan or APT?
Im competing in a 100% RAW meet at the end of this year, I just bought 24" wrist wraps today, Schiek Black Line wrist and knee wraps for a small meet tomorrow. Be lame if the 100% Raw Fed changed to 18" cuz then thats money blown lol! Anybody used Schiek black line wraps before?
I heard about the 18" rule change at a meet. I emailed Paul Bossi and he said they had no plans of changing the wrist wrap length. I guess what I heard was wrong, so I bought a pair of 24" wraps.
I’m 100% flat footed. I’m talking Chuck Taylor’s have too much of an arch for me that without an orthotic to compensate it hurts the whole time. So I’m looking at alternatives without breaking bank. Right now I deadlift and squat barefoot, bench with my running shoes + orthotics on.
Given that I’m so flat footed and use to being barefoot anyways you think Titan’s Deadlift Slippers would work for me for both Deadlifting and Squatting? I see they’re IPF approved, does that mean they’re also allowed in APF competitions?
Deadlift slippers work great for deadlift, second only to Vibrams. In my experience anyway. The only downside is you probably will need stick um for the slippers, to keep them from moving around on your foot, unless you have a close stance. I’m not familiar with apf rules, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be allowed.
Not sure about APF, but I saw deadlift slippers turned down for the squat at a USAPL equipment check. (They were OK for deadlifting, just not for squatting). What about getting a pair of chucks and taking the insoles out?
If you guys who bought your 24" wrist wraps end up not being able to use them, send me a PM. My federation allows 1 meter length wrist wraps, and I only have a set of 12", so I’m looking to get something bigger.
Stats: 6’2 285lbs
Best Lifts: 520lbs oly squat/ 400lbs bench/ 630lbs pull all raw and all working singles
Equipment being reviewed: Pendlay 2010 Oly Weightlifting Shoe
Pros: Cost; It’s not nearly as expensive as Addidas Oly Shoes. Durable; I’m still training in them after 2+ years of training. Overall Quality; sole is very rigid. The heel of the sole is great to help open up positions without putting to much stress on the knees from a to high heel. They fit wider feet individuals well. A good shoe for high bar, narrow stance, oly squattting.
Cons: The only con I can think of is that the shoe is on the heavy side. Not a shoe to wear if you squat wide stance.
Comparison: Addidas Ironworks, Addistar, Power Plus.
Thoughts: If you are looking for a good Oly shoe to give you better support for your high bar, narrow stance squats I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing a pair of the Pendlay’s. If you are a wide stance squatter these are not the shoes for you. Also if you are trying to get serious with Oly lifting I would suggest the Ironworks instead. They are a lot lighter and that will make a difference when performing the classical lifts (Clean & Jerk and Snatch). The heel height is higher on the ironworks but they shouldn’t be to high and cause patella tendonitis.
Just got some Inzer knees sleeves to see if I can get some support for 60 year knees that have two surgeries in their history. I know this is dumber than dumb, but what is the best way to wear ?, seams to outside of the knee ?, straps front or side?, how high relative to the kneecap?. I went to sleeves because I’m a klutz with wraps and trying to get squats done in split 5X5 with trainer in 1 hour session.

My training partner uses the APT Convicts, theyre stiff and resilient as hell. Cant tell u much more than that cause I havent used em.
Convicts are great. Tough to wrap, but if you get em nice and tight I think they give good stopping power and some spring. Mambas seem to me like a similar but not as good wrap. BUT I really think that if they are alowed in your fed (stupid IPF), then the strangulators are the wrap to use. If you like a tight wrap (which you should), then nothing is comparable to nicely wrapped strangulators. X’ing them on the top is a really good idea btw. Same with the convicts.

Wish APT was still around. Seems that they are done…glad I got my strangulator wrist wraps when I did. Definitely love those and would have loved to get a pair of apt knee wraps…
Steely, I have the inzer z wraps wrists and knee, and then the gripper just for wrist. I like them. I have a long pair so i only use it for singles really. They are nice though.
My bad steely, didnt even notice u posted asking about the grippers. I have the knee wraps and they are awesome. I feel like I get a pretty good rebound out of them and you can really crank em down.
Achilles, you have the gripper wrist wraps? How do you like em?
