Would you sacrifice some strength/size for more endurance?
Would you give up some muscle mass to be a more well-rounded athlete.
I ask because the closer I get to 270, the less “wind” I have. When I do what it takes to be able to run a mile without colapsing, I lose muscle.
So my poll question is this; would you sacrifice being the “biggest” (most muscle mass possible with moderate BF) to be the “baddest” (strong, big, leaner AND wind enough to say, chase and catch the kid who eggs your car on Halloween.)
Could you maybe just gradually build your endurance without losing muscle, but also without gaining muscle as fast?
Maybe just increase your calories while building your endurance.
I’ve gotten to that point (at a much lighter weight, and probably much higher bf%) and doing extra cardio/GPP/ESW made me feel a lot better in general, and my lifts didn’t go down.
As for the poll, I would sacrifice some muscle for a little endurance.
Who would sacrifice some endurance for say, 10 more pounds of muscle.
Maybe some out there think you can have it ALL with no measurable sacrifice. And if so, illustrate your recipe for success.
(And I’m NOT trying to say that big guys are useless lumps of muscle. I’m pretty agile and quick for 260 lbs.) I just know for myself, that it’s a pretty even trade-off… either very strong and big with noticably less endurance or more “athletic” but somewhat smaller and weaker.
And I’m aslo not interested in the type of endurance to run marathons. But more like surviving past the first round in MMA type of endurance.
I feel I have made that same sacrifice .I was weighing 225 I am now 216. And I feel I have more endurance I will go no lower than 210. I do not really feel the negative of strength loss because I do not do! 1 rep maxes I make my judgments by 3 or 4 rep maxes.
