Wow good video and that site looks promising with all sorts of interesting videos, thanks for that.
That video sucks, actually.
Completely agree. “triple extension is straightening of the hips, raising of the feet and shrugging of the shoulders” lol…that video was awesome.

brutal

I agree. This is the worst demonstration of the Clean and Jerk that I have ever seen.

You are keeping your elbows WAY WAY too low when you catch the bar for the power clean. Your elbow points should be sticking almost straight out in front of your face, not down at your stomach. Try just getting comfortable racking and unracking the bar in front squat position with your elbows out like that, and get used to the wrist flexibility it takes when you catch the bar. To me it seems that is why you are catching the bar with your back so hyper extended. Keep up the good screaming though!

This is the worst power clean form in my opinion. take a look and see for yourself.

Seriously. To the original poster, Travis Ortmayer is very, very strong. One of the top strongmen in the world. And if I wanted to know how to eat a shit ton, or lift really heavy rocks I would hunt him down and seek advice. However, if he ever gave me advice like that on the olympic lifts I would laugh him out of the room and tell him to quit embarrassing himself. To learn how to do the olympic lifts, seek out the best olympic lifters and the best olympic lifting coaches… simple as that.

There are many articles on here on T-Nation dealing with cleans, read them. Seek out the best lifters internationally that have the same general size and shape as you and watch their videos, over and over and over. Read “The Weightlifting Encyclopedia” by Drechsler, read “Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete Guide for Athletes” by Greg Everett. Read them both again, take everything with a grain of salt, search out other authors and coaches… Do scholarly article searches for biomechanical studies on the snatch and C+J, repeat. Bottom line, Learn.

There are a few lifts out there where getting psyched up more and yelling more will allow you to lift more, O-lifts aren’t one of them. The secret to lifting weights in O-lifting is perfect, impeccable form… learn it.

What do you guys think of these videos?

videos for other lifts found here

1st-Kudos for wanting to learn the Olympic lifts, very few people actually want to learn it these days.

2nd-Kudos for being able to basically muscle up 110kgs on the clean, that’s pretty impressive for someone who is basically muscling it up there.

3rd-You should really really really consider acquiring the aid of a trained coach. USA weightlifting will have lists of coaches in your state. If none of them live near you, email them and see if there is anyone they would recommend who is near you. Local Div II colleges or junior colleges are also a good place to start. I’m not an official USAW coach since none of the athletes have ever competed, but all of my athletes become fairly proficient at both the clean and the snatch while training under me. Unfortunately you are now at a disadvantage, because your brain has already “figured out” a motor pattern to lift the weights explosively. To learn proper technique you will 1st have to “unlearn” your old “technique” which takes longer than learning it correctly originally.

Do not become discouraged, while the O lifts do take some skill, flexibility and athleticism, they are lifts that almost anyone with a modicum of ability can not only learn, but become good at. It is a great form of lifting for increasing speed, power, and explosive strength. All of my athletes learn the Olympic lifts, and the average increase in vertical leap over a preseason for my athletes is 3 inches. This includes kids who were in advanced “traditional” lifting programs in highschool. So these lifts can help you maximize your athleticsm.

Good luck

Their strength coach needs to be fired.
