If we’re talking about movies with big box office that a lot of people like, I think “Meet the Parents” is one of the worst ever. A guy making an ass out of himself just isn’t funny to me, and that seems to be the intended source of humor in most Ben Stiller movies. I kind of liked “Zoolander” though.
you see right there, that’s what i like about these threads. i thought zoolander was crap, but i liked meet the parents. it would be interesting to combine the personality profiles with the worst/best movies. then instead of rating a movie pg-13 or r, they could rate it enfp, or intj.

That shit might actually work. But then, some ENFP would start crying because he was excluded from an INTJ movie preference and all hell would break loose.

Face-Off kicked ass. Incredible boat chase.
Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky had a tough role (not in the beginning obviously) and pulled it off. I think it’s one of the greatest movies of all time and certainly the best sci-fi movie in a decade.
War Of The Worlds would have been fantastic if Spielberg grew some balls and gave it a real ending.
Collateral didn’t impress me even though it should have because I couldn’t help but compare it to Heat. And it doesn’t come close (not that anything does).
Jaws the Revenge . . . how can you not love a movie where the shark actually ROARS! And Michael Cain is in it![/quote]
If you watch the original you see that its a bag of ass in comparison. The guy that leads also shows up Cruise for the lame actor he is. That said if you haven’t seen the original you might think it was ok, not great but ok. The original is an amazing piece of cinema. Minority report was far better in terms of Cruise does sci-fi.
Worst films ever?
I nominate Solaris. An ugly, nonsensical pointless piece of utter shite. Most others I would mention already have been.

My dislike of “Meet the Parents” probably has something to do with empathy. If you begin to empathize with the main character, when he acts like more and more of an ass, that is painful. “Zoolander” doesn’t cause this problem because it is essentially a live-action cartoon. Damn, that’s introspective.

And Grease!!
Deep Impact
I thought Garden State was a great movie.

Sorry had to come out of my usual lurking to ask the question…Is the implication here that Jackie Chan is an American Martial Artist?
My Vote goes to The Fog, 2005 not 1980.

Gone With the Wind…
As was my attention throughout that turgid crap.
On the other hand, I left “La Grande Bouffe” hungry, so I am probably not mainstream.

You’re not mainstream for even mentioning, thinking about or even nodding your head at a poster of Gone with The Wind.

Because it is beyond silly. I couldn’t get past people flying all over the place.
I don’t care how well it was filmed, it sucked.

Ha, the Louis CK movie. I only saw a clip of it on his website. All I can say is it didn’t entice me to go through the trouble of actually watching the whole thing.

I san see why you’d say it’s silly, it’s obviously not mainstream. The flying bit touched on the oneness of the mind and body, not some superhero powers. It reminds me of teachings about chi and about mental strength vs physical.

I think you would have to have at least some background in it to understand that aspect of it. I never even considered it to be some take on superpowers so I am a little surprised that someone viewed it and considered it “beyond silly”.

I tried to watch it on TV and found it completely unwatchable. I couldn’t sit through it. Maybe there is deep meaning in it, but it I didn’t want to waste my time sifting through the cartoonishness trying to find it.
I would rather read a book.
