I’d rather listen to the big guys in the gym (over the years, big guys in gyms have given me many valuable tips) than any personal trainer that I’ve ever spoken with (the stupidest shit I’ve heard in any gym I’ve worked out in have come out of the mouths of personal trainers).

No, it was irresponsible lay media. Scientists are actually pretty smart.

Secret Service Visits Man After Letter To Editor (ABC News)
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/politics/10807573/detail.html
Summary
The 81 year old man was interrogated by Secret Service agents after he wrote a letter to the Editor of a local newspaper saying that they “hung the wrong man” (referring to Hussein). They searched his house (no warrant I guess) and took pictures of him.
Seriously. How fucked up is that? I thought America was the land of the free?
Free to do what? Buy shit? And do what the government tells you…

I’d report him to the school principle. That’s fucking irresponsible and dangerous for the kids. He shouldn’t be coaching.

No one gets big through hard work, dedication, and the purposeful application of knowledge about training. People get big by luck, by drugs, or by accident.

Daytime
1 large meal
Nighttime
lots of beer
I laughed and laughed untill i cried on this one. That is funny, i could just picture it in my head.
It reminded me of when i was in the gym and two newbie guys were doing bicep curls.
They were throwing the weight up and down to their chest and using the most horrific form humanly possible…Then they walked over to the mirror with that “I’m the man” look to compare “bicep size”.
I almost dropped the 50lbs dumbell’s on my head after finishing my last set of shoulder press…It was the most shockingly hilarious thing i have ever seen. I couldn’t even finish my workout properley after that…

I don’t keep my body perfectly stiff when doing alternate dumbbell curls. Is it that unlikely he was trying to get this guy to learn that some “cheating” in some movements is a good thing?
Let me know when you get to curling 85-90lbs dumbbells without moving your upper body at all.
I think the worst advice I have ever heard is switch from regular soda to diet soda, and use splenda in your coffee instead of sugar.
This is totally opinion based, but I do belive aspertame is horrible for your body, as well as shit products like splenda. Like I said… totally opinion based.
Anyways, I think it is better to just cut out pop all togeather.

I’ve always used alt db curls as an opportunity to use some body english.
Non-alternating and EZ curls I think it’s a good idea to try and stamp it out but the body is meant to act as a unit, I don’t think you lose much by adding a little shoulder activation into the mix as long as it’s not turning into something that looks more like a power clean than a curl.

There is also a HUGE difference between that and some newbie who is lifting more weight than he should using every muscle in his body to get a weight up. I see a lot of little guys trying to use absolute perfect form on biceps curls (especially those who use super slow reps)as if someone is grading them on the movement.
I rarely see any of them become “muscular guys” who are lifting the same as those that understand some “educated cheating” is a good thing if your goal is to get much stronger and much larger.

Actually, that is exactly what he is saying, and which I responded to:
Please point out where he said flexibility is a side goal. Because it seems to me he is saying “I hear so much about X amount of weight is my long term goal or this many reps,” and he seems to have a problem with that as a long term goal as opposed to flexibility. NO WHERE does he say it is a side goal, and if he does, please point it out.
Holy shit, this whole flexibility/ stretching thing refuses to die. I think that Dave Tate made a good point when he was interviewed on T-Nation Radio a while back:
You take all the components necessary for achieving your goals, such as; agility, strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness.
You then see where you rank out of 10 for those and compare your numbers with the ideal (taken by observing a professional powerlifter, football player, bodybuilder etc.)
If for example you are a powerlifter and need 4 out of 10 for cardio, you do GPP until you reach that goal AND NO MORE.
I believe this is the point that Prof X was making initially when saying that stretching should be kept to a minimum.
He ,and others like him, are probably in a position where the flexibility ‘score’ is where it needs to be. For others, like myself, who suffer from poor flexibility, stretching has moved to a high position on the list of priorities (i.e. it is hindering my squat performance by bringing down my ‘strength’ and ‘technique’ scores).
If this is the case then concentrating on improving flexibility is a pretty fucking good idea.
I understand why you might have thought that this guy was going overboard, Petedacook. On the other hand I think he was drawing attention to the fact that not enough people look at how they rate on the flexibility scale AT ALL.
Jim Wendler also wrote an article along very similar lines:
http://www.elitefts.com/documents/new_look_at_weak_points.htm
Examples he gives (for himself, a powerlifter):
Technique needs to be: 10/10
Speed needs to be: 7/10
Strength needs to be: 9/10
