World's Strongest Man General Discussion

Kieliszkowski raises his deadlift up to around 1k upper 900s no one will beat him. He’s still young but finishing 8th in deadlift is only thing that killed him. He dominates on overhead, and stone events and honestly frame carry he dominated. He’s a very likable guy. Second not bad to the best strong man in the world right now and beating the current WSM.

Mateusz is much more explosive than Thor. But Thor’s static strength (size helps of course) is unmatched.

Mateusz lifted 320 on his 2nd attempt to win the Cyr dumbbell event. But Thor came close to locking out 330 on his 3rd attempt, because he made a “safe” 280 1st attempt to seal the overall victory, then 300 on the 2nd to lock up 2nd in the dumbbell. It sure looked like Thor was capable of the 320 as well for a 2nd attempt.

Surprisingly, Caron could not even get one rep on the 274. Martins came after w/o needing to lift at all to place 3rd, but he did 274 and then failed at 290; he had to use his (non-dominant) left hand because his right side* was still not 100%.

*arm and hamstring, which is why he “only” deadlifted 906 and placed poorly in that event.

Side note: whoever prepares the background info for the announcers need to do their homework…

I cracked up when Mateusz said he pushed his little truck with weight on it to train for the wheel of pain.

Hahah, yes that was funny.

I think if (as) he learns to speak English more fluently, he will become more marketable all over, and will start earning the buckos that he deserves. The heart he showed doing his deadlift was unreal!

I think so too. He just seems like good guy. I was really hoping he would win.

There’s a reason “Mateusz is my favorite strongman” has become a “thing”!

Even Martins’ Mom said it (as a joke?.. ) in one of Martins’ videos LOLLLL!!!

He actually said that to him. Lol it was funny.

And yeah I really like him. I’ve been watching him for a while now and have enjoyed watching him grow. He’s got talent and I don’t doubt he will get a few Arnold and WSM titles In his career.

Crazy thing is, the guy has multiple WR. The guy is a monster with stone to shoulder, stone press , log press, I mean you name it he is a beast at it…except dead lift . Which is funny saying about an 850lb deadlifter lol but when there’s multiple 1000 lb deadlifters you gotta be higher.

And yes tremendous guts on that deadlift. He out lasted his straps lol

This needs to be the lede for…something!!!

Winning 4 of 6 events and losing by 3.5 points is pretty harsh result but goes to show how consistent Thor is.

EDIT: official difference was 2 points.

Confession: I got pretty excited when Thor rolled out the 330 dumbbell out

Just watched Thor’s YT video. The way he pointed at the 330lb dumbbell (after already pressing 280 and 300 easily) to attempt to break the record of 320 that Mateusz had just set was…positively majestic, an appropriately mountainous gesture.

Finally saw who he blew a kiss to right after the finish -his Mom. Nice.

I think Mateusz is going to be a future WSM winner if he stays healthy, also Shivlyakov finishing 6th on a sprained ankle is crazy.

A few years ago it was Thor who was losing due to poor placing on static strength mainly deadlift or squat when it appeared. Looks like he was able to square that up. Maybe Mateusz can do the same.

Who were the commentators? I didn’t catch the names, nut I did notice cluelessness and a lot of Rogue ass-kissing. What’s the name of the one that supposedly competed?

Dr. Bill Crawford. Given his background, he should definitely be capable of doing better.

I was competing 20 years ago. I own the prototype thick bar from Mastiff Equipment (I bought it from Karl Gillingham), Somebody bought Mastiff, but I don’t remember who. Slater is Steve Slater. I competed with him, he’s been selling equipment and renting the molds for stones for a good twenty years. There have been a string of manufacturers over the years, and most of the equipment specs have been standard for a very long time. You could get copies of the prints from the sanctioning bodies if you were building equipment for contests. I have no idea what he was going on about. If he had home made stuff, it’s because he was too cheap to pay for the other stuff (And most of us were).
And the Wheel of Pain is a stupid event. End of rant.

Yea they werent great.

Sooner than later. Looks like he will be pushing Thor as Thor ages and Mateusz comes into his own. Side note, I really like how all these guys like each other off the stage. Compete, but be gentlefolk.

I think you are definitely right. With the Stone pressing he kept dropping it from one side. I thought he was blacking out but it was the same side giving out that he couldnt hold onto the frame.

This was one of the high points of the sport. Aside from maybe Marius, everyone was always friendly and helpful. Very different from most sports.

I’ve seen a few other people say this on other boards. Why is that? I think it’s badass.

Because they’re Brian Shaw fans? Because they don’t like Conan?

It’s the push version of the (insert vehicle here) pull, no reason to hate it.
