I thought I had seen Clearwater, about a million years ago, but not sure if that’s accurate.
Saw something on Terrys IG that said Bradenton area? No idea where that is?
It’s South of Clearwater, Gulf side. My wife’s from Bradenton.
Small world, are you close enough to get down there and watch. ??
I’m in Nicaragua, but when I’m in the States I’m usually in North Carolina or South Carolina. Florida sucks out loud, I wouldn’t live there on a bet. Under non-Covid conditions I could fly in in and watch pretty easily, but not right now.
Does anyone know the events?
Must watch Martins’ new video, they’re in Florida even though Martins is not competing; the intro is hilarious; they also interview Mateusz via facetime -he really wanted to win, super tough break with his torn tricep.
Spoiler alert: Mateusz (jokingly) asks them if they’re staying in the same room and sleeping in the same bed -hilarious.
How come none of the hotels I go to have gyms like that? An actual barbell, rack, and bumper plates? I’m lucky if there is a smith machine.
I like the events list:
“Maybe” a medley - who knows?
“Some sort” of deadlift. Not sure which.
Train for that!
Finals
Yoke/Farmers (possibly one or the other or maybe a medley)
Log Ladder
Keg Toss
Hercules hold
Some sort of Deadlift
Atlas Stones for WSM finals
With day 2 of the heats about to start, what do you guys think of the results so far?
The biggest (but a welcome) surprise seems to be Terry in heat 5, taking first in the farmer’s walk and joint first in the deadlift. Sure he’ll lose points in double dumbells, but he should be in contention in the loading race that’s about to start around now.
Also, Jerry Pritchett seems to be doing well, maybe the forced time off from competitions has done him good. Same goes for Novikov, no more 50 comps a year sure make for better recovery. I don’t think he wants to do the stones again after last year, but I also don’t think he’ll have to. A stone-off between Tom Stoltman and Trey Mitchell doesn’t look unlikely, that should take a while!
Another surprise: I really thought Luke Richardson would do better in the first two events. I’d picked him to possibly win group 1.
Definitely seems that Brian was trying to take it easy in group 5, but may have picked his top competition wrong (probably watching Stoltman, more than Hollands). He still has a good shot to win the group, but he might also get himself into a stone off. My guess would be the Shaw picks up a couple points on Hollands in the press (Shaw gets first and Hollands is a couple points down) and still wins the group. I wonder if there is a tie for first in the group do they just skip the stone off? Or what happens.
Novikoff was the only guy who was really hurt by the stone off, last year (he’s the only guy who was in second place by a large point spread and lost the stone off). He’s the real deal and it seems he doesn’t want to be in another stone off.
Farmer’s for max distance as the first event really threw a curve ball. It’s hard to know how far you need to go to win and you don’t really want to go to failure and risk ripping your hands. It’s also an event where going last is a huge advantage. I doubt they had a blackout (not really feasible with a crowd anyways).
If I understood it correctly any tie will be decided by split times in the overhead event.
Caron seems pretty much through in group 4 with 14,5 points after 3 events. He’ll do some damage in the final.
Where can you see results from the third event already?
Kalle Beck / startingstrongman
In my experience, it has nothing to do with whether or not you rip your hands. The only problem is forearm fatigue in other events, like anything overhead.
It might not be such a big issue with the new rogue handles they’ve been using for the last few years, but in the 2000’s you could see plenty of ripped off skin practically every year at world’s from the super thin handles they used. You can’t tell me that doesn’t impact other events.
Probably depends on implements, but hands being ripped has definitely been an issue on farmers and frames even more recently than early 2000s.
