Workout Timing

Hey everybody. Quick Question. I work the graveyard shift (9p - 7a). Sometimes I sleep too long, if thats possible, and don’t have time to get to the gym before i’m off to work. I am allowed to go to the gym while working, usually around 5am and go to bed around 8am. I know that I have to eat alot of my protein and calories in the first two hours after working out. Is it a recipe for disaster to eat so much after working out and going to bed shortly thereafter? Don’t know about that fine line between feeding the muscle and feeding the fat.

your metabolism doesn’t decrease a ton while you’re asleep. so eating protein would not be an issue. the issue of carbs comes down to how you handle carbs.

if you’re getting a lot of protein and fat before bed, I wouldn’t worry. it’s the carbs that you have to be careful with.

hope this helps

carbs after a glycogen depleting weight training session should be no problem at any point in time during the day if your goal is recovery. If you need to decrease bodyfat then i would go with the high fat high protein diet because of the long fasting period during sleep, and then have a huge carb up once you wake up. like the previous post, it depends on the individual. I would recomend long chain carbs before bed time to promote long blood sugar levels and adequate glycogen replenishment. that’s my opinion. laters pk
