Wondering?

Just wondering because I overheard some guys talking. What is an abscess or site infection? I was also wondering how do you know if you have one? Thanks guys.

You will know if you get one

Inject AS. Hit the zit on your glute. Infection spreading deep into the tissue.

I got a deep infection about 12 years ago from hitting my upper thigh. I starting having burning pain and red streaks appeared on the skin. Also had imflammation that spread to my right knee. A week of antibiotics cleared it up but it scared the hell out of me.

Thanks for the responses. Is an abscess the same as a site infection??

Bill: An Abscess is the body’s attempt to “wall off” an infection, in an attempt to keep it from spreading to other parts of the body. A common (or “lay”) term is “pus pocket”; A walled of, red, swollen area of pus (infection fighting cells), debris, fluid and organisms. In terms of muscleheads, most absesses result either from 1) injecting a substance using an unsterile needle or 2) using the same area to inject in over and over. Either way, you will tend to push Staph and/or Strep organisms (that are normally on the skin), and in the worst cases, Psuedomonas, either underneath the skin OR into the muscle, leading to eventual infection. The term “site infection” is sort of a non-specific term (like the term “germ”) that just says the the site of injection is infected. All abscesses are “site infections” but not all “site infections” are abscesses. Some are just areas of redness and superficial inflammation. Hope this helps.

Mufasa, thanks for your response. So you can identify an abscess or site infection because the skin in the area is rashy? Correct? Is there any pain, discomfort or noticable feelings associated with it? Thanks again.
