First off stop calling jezebel “fringe” it is by far the most popular feminist site out there based on popularity. Secondly, it’s extremely important what is written on these sites as it shape women’s opinions and thus effects society. It is no concern to you that women are being taught that they can be as fat as they want and still be beautiful or that there’s nothing wrong with being a slut? You can’t possibly be this stupid. I don’t know about that, I think it probably is pretty fringe. I’d heard or read the name before, but wouldn’t have been able to identify what the site was about. I saw the Suffragist postcards on Facebook.

The girls and women I know, and I know a lot of them, are still pretty concerned about being fat or thought a slut.

When I said popular I mean in terms of feminist websites. It’s definitely a top 5 feminist site. If you’re friends aren’t feminist they don’t really apply.

They helped this go viral. Obese woman posts a pic of herself and gets 100,000 comments mostly compliments

But I am a feminist and so are my friends! Seems like people without an ax to grind don’t generally have much interest in the rage sites, whether feminist or your anti-women sites. Let’s face it, most of us would rather be kissing someone of the opposite sex than screaming about their biology-based faults on the internet.

I always wonder about the hate mongers. Why would anyone want to spend time that way?

That is an interesting question, coming from someone whose group is not fucked in every conceivable way.

Maybe it feels different on the other end of the spiked buttplug?

´Cause, lets be cereal…

White heterosexual males?

We pay for the party.

Cant we have a little bit of fun too?

I don’t get the outrage? What has she done that upsets you so? I see worse here on TN, fat-wise. Let’s face it, a lot of our pals here are pretty chubby. But…so?

OMG can’t you see this is a serious matter! Fat girls thinking it’s ok! Society will surely decay!

Seriously though, worrying about the social consequences of girls thinking it`s okay to be fat is…I don’t even know what to call it…lol. There’s politics and religion, racism and violence and of course war and corruption but WHAT ABOUT THE FAT GIRLS??? AND THEY’RE SLUTTY!!!

I live in a society where this idea, that it’s “okay” to be fat, is absolutely foreign. People would think you were joking if you were to try and honestly advance it (well, this is just starting to change, I must fearfully admit). Unsurprisingly, there are almost NO fat women here, people are not killing themselves over “body dysmorphia” (they find other things to kill themselves over), and, overall, there are more beautiful women on a per capita basis here than in any other country I’ve ever been to. And that’s not just because this country is filled with Asian women, haha.

So, yeah, if you really don’t care about that sort of thing, fine, but to act like it does not have ANY effect upon society generally is naive.

I am being completely serious when I say I think it’s utterly ridiculous to worry about the social impact of girls thinking it’s ok to be fat. Why does anyone care what anyone chooses to do with their body? Time to get a hobby I say lol.

Not just girls / women, but all people.

It has implications for all of us: health care and insurance costs, life span and impact on children and families, productivity…

Men or women; obesity should not be condoned.
Yes. This was my point.

Also, for better or worse, most people just believe whatever is yelled the loudest. And the louder the forgive anything, it’s all good, I gotta be me and you gotta be you unless it’s different than me crowd yells, the fatter and less healthy this country gets (among other issues).

Wow. Glad I don’t live under your dictatorship :stuck_out_tongue:

If someone wants to eat themselves to death, smoke themselves to death, or heli-ski themselves to death or get built on juice or get high on weed…etc, then all the power to them. I’m all for education of the risks but in the end it’s no one else’s businsess. And unless you want to start making a list of all the other ‘risky’ activities people do that cost healthcare and are prepared to start shaming all around then I will regard the obsession people have with fat people as ridiculous.

I would say you’re naive if you can’t see that fat girls seeking acceptance have arisen BECAUSE obesity is not condoned. Which I should add the attempt to shame fat people into getting thin is failing miserably.

Sorry but I am not going to buy your explanations that you are concerned because it’s a health issue. I call bullshit. That is not what this thread is about.

But then again, women are naturally fat so why fight it? It’s innate!

Fat girls create a huge (no pun intended) dating inequality. The number of thin-attractive girls drastically decreases and every girl who is not fat or brutally ugly under 30 has a bunch of quality men lining up around the block for them. The market essentially (already happened in North America) becomes hyper competitive for men.

It has now become extremely difficult to lock down a woman under 25. The first sign of trouble she will jump when in the past she would’ve tried to fix her current relationship in many situations. Why bother fixing your current relationship when you have 5 guys lined up right behind the one you currently are dating? Women will cheat and stray regularly.

Oh and with all the options women have, the average number of partners a woman has will increase. I posted the study before but I’ll just state the results once more: women who’ve had 5 partners before marriage have a 70% divorce rate. At 16 partners that rate jumps to 80%.

While I can have fun now in my 20’s with short term casual relationships, I know it will be impossible to find a woman actually worth settling down and marrying in this current climate. At least one that’s under 30 and it hasn’t had several partners before me.

So yes that’s why I hate fat acceptance and sites like Jezebel telling women it’s okay to be fat and slutty.

Oh and what Cortes said.

That makes me just a tad sad, Deb.

You think I’m lying?

<There was much more that I typed, but I don’t think I should have to try and convince you that I’m being honest, so I deleted it.>
Sorry Chushin, I shouldn’t have directed that at you. I don’t believe this is really at the heart of the issue for Raj or Cortes but I do believe you and I lumped my response altogether but I don’t believe you are arguing the same thing. Again, sorry.

Here’s a map of single people aged 18-30

Blue = more men

red = more women

From what I’ve read from you here, the fatties are going to be the least of your problems when it comes to landing a decent woman. But I guess oppression comes in all shapes and sizes eh ? (pun har har)

Orion, I have been telling you that you SHOULD go have some fun. Pull away from the bitterness and go do something nice!

Your group pays for the party because they own the venue and the drinks and food and glasses and plates and little horn-blowers. But YOU, personally, do not. You and I probably earn about the same (guessing based on tone of your posts). I’m underpaid given my level of education and the danger and difficulty of my work. Someone asked above why women overrepresented in my field…the pay is why, it’s a girl job, so pays less. More and more men are going into teaching as they move toward reasonable pay for work demands.

Interestingly, ALL of the senior management at my agency are male. Just as an aside…

Anyway, Orion, we probably pay about the same in taxes, you and I. I have to drive the speed limit, too. You, personally, are not disadvantaged in comparison to me. Though my gender has historically had challenges, I’m bright, attractive enough to be viewed positively without being so attractive as to inspire malice, and healthy, so in comparison to most people, I am at a fairly significant advantage.

I will also note that unless you are making far more money than I imagine, you are not footing very much of the bill.

This picture is for Emily from middle school, who bullied me incessantly, made mocking videos about me, sent me nasty emails, and called me â??lardâ??. She made me feel like I didnâ??t deserve to exist. Just because I happened to be bigger than her. I was 12. And she continued to bully me via social media into high school.

Would you like to explain yourself Emily?
That bitch was FAT!

I agree with Deb (as I almost always do). There is already plenty of shaming. It doesn’t work. The North American diet is not conducive to lean. You have to make an effort to maintain slenderness. Some people do, others don’t. This is life.

People wanting a shot at “one of the good ones” should endeavor to enhance and enrich themselves. Time spent angrily bemoaning shitty, unfair world is wasted. It also makes for an unappealing personality, and so probably reduces odds of getting the good one. No decent man is going to want to listen to a Jezebel fan bitch about what selfish assholes men are (if indeed that is what the site is about). No decent woman wants to hear the self-pity of men whipped into a “white male underdog” frenzy. It is negative and tedious, from whichever side it comes.
