Women Against Going to the Gym

I have yet to encounter anyone who thinks me lifting is a bad thing. Could be it’s because most people trust me to make good decisions. But it’s probably because most people think i’m somewhat scrawny and could use some muscle mass to fill out my frame, lol (even though i’m 205lbs right now…I don’t look it). Maybe when I get bigger i’ll get some more of these negative comments. I do have friends who like to joke and pretend I take steroids since i’ve gotten so serious about lifting lately, but it’s harmless joking.

In many ways lifting reflects an obsession with oneself and improving one’s appearance. Regardless of whether it’s true or not (and I think generally it is to an extent), I think society sees people who lift a lot as being egotistical and self-centered. I mean, think of all the guys in the gym who stand around and admire themselves in the mirror after they do their 50th set of curls or abs. A lot of people in the gym ARE obsessive about their appearance.

It’s not hard to see how the people who aren’t obsessed but are just smart about it and have just integrated it into their daily routine get lumped in with all the obsessed people.

Those big guys in the gym carry around little pads that they write in while they’re working out.

I have no idea what they are writing in there.

"Dear Diary,

I lifted 300 pounds today.

I am fucking huge.

I will keep writing, because my arms are stuck in this position.

Love,

me"
LOL I am in my university library and just started cracking up when I read that and everyone started looking at me…oh that made my day

Classic! I love it. I just love it.

i h8 it when people bring out ‘get a life line’ its freaking rediculous statement. People are different, personllay i dont see drinking yourself stuipid and trying to socialize in a state of intoxication the meaning of life but thats just me (cuz most of my friends think this is what its all about, hence why i bought up drinking). All drinking does is promote your more, violence, cheating, sex, vandalism, and most of all alcahol tatses foul (in most cases) hmmmmm some1 plz clean it up for me, why again as humans we like drinking?

Are you sure you weren’t drunk when you wrote this?

^ Atleast am honest ;o

I like people who confuse activity with action. Anyone “too busy” for anything usually reflects a lack of priorities.

I like the book the 4 hour work week for 1 primary reason. We as a culture spend WAY TOO much time consuming media that has zero effect on our lives. (sort of like right now if you took a moment to read this.)

As far as dating goes if she does not exercise we probably do not have that much in common.

I’ve yet to have anyone say anything negative to me about it. Maybe they’re all just glad I’m busy and don’t want to hang out with them. Damn. I suck.

You can lump me with the intense, obsessed crowd though.

You get negative 7 pimp points for not going over there and sticking it in her pooper. Seriously, you either have teh ghey or are clueless when it comes to women.

WHO GAVE NEPH MY FUCKING TRAINING LOG?!?!?!?!

I usually get the “I wish I could be like you” from most of the guy friends. Most of the chicks claim to hate guys with big muscles. When I ask them to define big they don’t know what to say. I usually just point out that there is no definite size which would be too big, as in a measurement. BUT there is definitly something to being improportionate and that is what they don’t like. After you show them a couple of examples they come around.

As for the people who think training is stupid. Just ask them what physical activity they think they’re better at. MOST OF THE TIME this ends up as a race be it long or very short. They’re usual justification is “well I’m going to win because I weigh 100lbs less than you.” Chances are you won’t lose or if you do they had obviously been training at some other point in their life, at which point you can ask them why they quit.

So I just got back from the gym after doing my usual power and strength routine, and this girl I know decides to text me a message.

She says: “your training what?”
I say: “I lifted weights, did some jump rope for cardio, and made a new front squat record”
She says: “oh, you boys and your working out”
I say: " something to do, keeps me from getting weaker and my body composition in check"
She says: “Well its boring, I don’t have time for that”
I say: “Typical excuse from not being able to manage your time well”

Then all of a sudden out of nowhere, she splurts out: “it bothers me when guys goto the gym 2-3 hrs a day, umm yeah i have a life.” ( My thoughts: being mostly sedentary and drinking isn’t a life, its called being a fat)

Any of you guys encounter women that have this type of attitude against our sport? I just laugh when they make these foolish comments considering most don’t have any general fitness level and their bodyfat % is above the norm!!!
Dude, do you think she knows what the fuck a front squat is? Just reply “my left nut” and see where that goes. Discussing training with everyone isn’t the best idea. She’s just using the question as a conversation starter; she doesn’t actually give a shit what you were training.

Also, if you’re not as dick like me, you could take laroyal’s advice and try to get her to the gym while keeping her feeling good about herself.

Do you really do this?

I don’t feel the need to justify myself to anyone. If you’re into bodybuilding, you’re going to have to live with the fact that a lot of times you’re going to do your own thing. People won’t understand. Get over it.

I guess I’m just odd, but I get a woman friends that enjoy lifting. I guess everyone likes antagonists.

cant say it isnt true though

one of my friends got very annoyed when I was talking to him… he said he woke up at 7am to play a game on his comp… I said I woke up at 5am to eat Breakfast… and he went on a rant about how stupid it was rofl

This was covered in TC’s “Like Hell You Could” article. My friends all assume that I spend my day at the gym. They won’t lift with me because “I probably take, like, 4 hours”. In actuality, I lift for about an hour. Also, when you ask girls what big muscles are and what a good body is, they usually point to David Beckham or Brad Pitt, which just spins me into a dimension of pissed off that’s very unpleasant.

All in all, we lift for ourselves to improve ourselves, so it shouldn’t matter what the outsider’s opinions are, anyways.

I tell them:

“some people like golf, some people like gardening…I like lifting heavy weights and eating”

That’s about all they get from me…

Your avatar… does it have a full-sized version? I’m having serious difficulty reading the text…

Someone even worse. Mario Lopez… PMG!!!@$!#%!#%Q!^@$^@$^%W$%^W@%@^$^@W$^$ he has small…110lb 15 year old kid abs but they are so sexy. It made me sick. People have no Idea what a persons body can look like.

Yes. I can send you the file…it is also me desktop pic.

it reads:

Because she is “warming up” with your max!!

Oh, I’ve seen those. Are there really little gymnasts in Asia that are squatting crazy weight? That’s what I’ve heard.

Am I a total Ludite for hating text messaging?
Don’t people use phones anymore?
