What? Am I just expected to Not bench for the next 40 workouts
Bench:
20x8
60x5
80x3
90x3
100x3
110x3
120x2 - 264.5lbs
Not as bad as I thought it would be. Not bad after 4 weeks of no real benching. Plan to bench just One low volume session per week for this 8 week block.
Walked the doggos. Took the kid for a bike ride. Then into the garage.
Front squat:
20x5
60x2
70x5
70x5 getting easier. Could comfortably do 10 now. Will remain patient before increasing load too quickly.
Press:
20x5
40x3
50x2
55x5
55x5 also getting easier. Really thought I’d started too heavy with this one after day 1 and 2…but it’s coming on.
Chinups:
106x5
106x5. Yep. Also felt easier.
RDL:
70x3
110x3
140x5
140x5 form was a bit shit lol. Not bad or dangerous, but not RDL enough for my liking, really wanting more hams involved. Last two reps on each set were text book. Guessing this is why some people walk these out? Too easy to just wedge and hinge like a regular deadlift. I’ll persist.
Ab Work:
Plank:
52 seconds. Wtf m8.
A really good, really clean session. Warming up was a bit shit…back was tight still from the carries the other day and no doubt a little bit from the increase in weight on the ABC complex, and slight more effort put in. But this is the adaptations I’m wanting to force upon the system, so forward we continue.
Shouldered the bag for a 20m walk for side. Then hugged it for another 20m. So 60m in total, and continuing the theme Dan John suggests of just doing something different with these carries every time I do them. I’m thinking a dumbbell farmers walk, or…a 60kg barbell carry on the shoulders for a Good distance. Sure to get the neighbors talking.
Already had one comment today with the bag on my shoulders haha “What are you doing???..”. Training.
Back to the lifting. Front squats felt good. Still need better mobility for the front rack position. Working on stretching the lats, wrists, and hanging from the chinup bar for warmups…shall persist. Maybe I just need More of that during the days.
Press felt good. Solid. Good.
RDL technique felt really good today. Feel like I’ve got it right now. Lol. ‘May’ change the exercise in week 3. We’ll see. Feel like maybe doing some Snatch grip deadlifts, because they suck, so I should.
Just checked your insta vids and you were asking around front squat wrist flexibility and maybe you have seen this, but just in case you havent I usually do this with wrist straps once the weights get around 80% plus or so (so maybe they never do on this program??), otherwise Ive always liked the front cross arm rack
Yeah my mate on insta there commented the same thing.
In the conversation since, we’ve discovered my mobility is actually REALLY good…it’s my back angle that makes it so hard. If I can’t.squat more upright, then long term the straps Might be the answer.
Not a fan of the crossed arms. Too much of a reduction in control.
Agreed, especially heavy, thats where the straps come in… Your wrist flexibility already looks almost god tier compared to mine haha. I can barely do that front rack position with the bar alone
It’s very good I think yep. Here I was worrying about it, but it’s really my squat genetics causing the difficulty
Day 6 today, will play around with a couple of ideas from yesterdays thinking. Chomping at the bit to train…no soreness from yesterday at be all.
Ended up doing 50 more KB swings later in the day after the ABC with 22.5kg in which I got the same reps (14) as last time. Maybe slightly easier the ABC, maybe not. Was hard to distinguish.
No walk yet this morning, woke up so fuckin tired at 6am, so went back to bed for 90 minutes. Woke up much better, and got straight into work. Will push on until lunch, then walk and train.
